I'll be offline until late this evening - if folks can keep things updated in the Transaction thread if an Aramis Ramirez DL stint sets off a chain reaction of minor league moves (Blake Davis?), thanks, enjoy your Saturday.

I was going to comment on this yesterday after looking at the top 10 player placements for each organization but these visa issues seem silly, and why aren't the teams on top of this better? Both these players were caught up in scandals in the past but can their respective organizations afford to have them sitting around instead of playing? Martinez is a Cards prospect and Paniagua is a Cubs prospect.

Arcia just made a highlight reel play in short center on a soft line drive. The ball just cleared Suter's glove, Arcia got to the ball on the second hop behind 2B in short center, rolled to his feet, and gunned the runner at 1st. I was concerned that Arcia might be more of 3B/2B type without the benefit of a slew of scouting reports to go off of but if the early returns are any suggestion WI won't miss Rivera's defense at all.

Taylor just made another diving catch to save a run... the young T-Rats may single-handedly renew my enthusiasm for the entire minor league system.

Yeah, it's going to be awesome following Taylor, Arcia, Roache, Haniger and Coulter in our own backyard.

I'll quote this as a twitter retweet for me agreeing! For a raw, development, project, boom or bust draft prospect with many holes in swing and game that some scouts noted around draft....Bruce Seid is looking like a very smart man right now!

Final: Peoria(Cardinals) 4, Wisconsin 3 (13 Innings)

Peoria gets in under the tag for 13 inning win

Rattlers fall for first time in 2013

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

PEORIA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers could not hold a 3-0 lead Saturday at Chiefs Stadium and wound up on the losing end of a 4-3 score in thirteen innings to the Peoria Chiefs. Alfredo Rodriguez had three hits and Tyrone Taylor drove Rodriguez in twice, but it was not enough as the Rattlers dropped their first contest of the 2013 season.

The bottom of Wisconsin's order got them going in the top of the third. Rodriguez and Michael Reed both singled with one out. A wild pitch moved both runners up a base with Taylor at the plate. The Chiefs brought the infield in and Taylor sent a grounder to second. But, the ball was booted for an error and Rodriguez scored without a play at the plate. Orlando Arcia followed with a single to right that knocked in Reed for a 2-0 lead.

Rodriguez and Taylor combined to give the Rattlers (2-1) a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning. Rodriguez singled to start the inning and went to second on an infield grounder. Taylor doubled down the left field line to send Rodriguez home for the three run lead.

Rattlers starting pitcher Brent Suter did not allow a run for his first 4-2/3 innings. But, Casey Rasmus reached on a swinging bunt with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Michael Swinson followed with an RBI double to left-center.

Rodolfo Fernandez came on in the bottom of the sixth inning and gave up consecutive doubles to Patrick Wisdom and David Washington to let Peoria within a run.

The Chiefs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as the first three hitters singled. Rasmus had the third single in the sequence to drive in the tying run.

The game remained tied until the thirteenth, but not for lack of opportunities.

Wisconsin put their leadoff batter on base in the tenth and twelfth innings. Peoria put their leadoff batter aboard in the ninth inning. They loaded the bases and had a 3-0 count to Charlie Tilson with two outs in their half of the twelfth. But, neither team could push a run across the plate.

In the bottom of the thirteenth, Rattlers reliever Taylor Mangum retired the first two Chief batters. Then, Rasmus pulled a seeing-eye single into the hole between firsts and second. Rasmus would steal second to get into scoring position.

Swinson lined a 3-2 pitch off the glove of Jose Sermo at third base. The ball trickled into foul territory in left field and Rasmus raced for the plate. Sermo's throw was in time, but a bit high. Catcher Clint Coulter got the tag down quickly on Rasmus, but the Chiefs catcher went in headfirst and was ruled to have got his hand in just under the tag to score the winning run.

The final game of the four game series is Sunday afternoon at Chiefs Stadium. Jorge Lopez is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Peoria will send Kyle Helisek to the mound. Game time is 2:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 1:40pm.

Wisconsin Boxscore

Well that was a tough way too lose as the T-Rats definitely didn't put their best foot forward late in the game as the pitching and defense got a bit sloppy. Tyrone Taylor and Micheal Reed were at the wall together but neither caught the ball and it hit the wall directly between them. Clint Coulter was way up with every throw to 2nd in the game, Arcia managed to go up and get the 1 and still tag out the runner when Coulter threw through to 2nd on the pick-off play. However in the 13th he airmailed the throw all the way into CF and had Arcia not have come down on top of Rasmus after trying to snag the ball then Rasmus would have been on 3rd. If we're being honest, the Rattlers should have lost in the 12th, as with the bases loaded and a 3-0 count Taylor Magnum was gifted a strike on what should have been ball 4 and the deciding run, he then managed to strike Tilson out to end the inning. Basically, it was just young players making mistakes that should be easy enough to fix as time goes on.

Another pitcher committed a throwing error, that's 5 throwing errors in 3 games, clean it up boys.

Cards prospect Tyrell Jenkins is basically still the same guy he was last year, maddeningly inconsistent from a Cards perspective. It's no wonder he's back in the MWL... last year he dominated the Rattlers once and was throttled by them the other time. Today he either put the Rattlers down in order (with the help of a pick-off of Sermo in the 4th) or he was in trouble. He certainly has all the tools and it won't hurt my feelings if he never pans out as a SP for them.

Final: Huntsville 5 Chattanooga 4

Chattanooga took another early lead only to have Huntsville come back and take over the game behind another dominant start and strong hitting. Taylor Jungmann was the story tonight. Making his AA debut, Taylor earned the win by pitching 5 very strong innings allowing only a run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strike outs. After allowing a run in the 1st on a walk, a stolen base, and a single, Jungmann retired the 12 out of the next 13 Lookout hitters he faced. On an early season pitch count, Jungmann threw 64 pitches, 42 for strikes. 40 man roster pitcher Santo Manzanillo came on to pitch 2 clean innings hitting 95 on the radar gun. Hopefully the shoulder is fully healed and Santo can get back to his 2011 form. Lefty Thomas Keeling struggled tonight allowing 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning. Another lefty, Brian Garman came on to limit the damage, getting the last 2 outs of the 8th. Casey Medlen earned his 2nd save in as many nights, striking out the potential winning run on a 3-2 breaking ball.

Huntsville Box Score

On offense, the Stars were led by the middle of the order. Jason Rogers, Kentrail Davis, and Brock Kjeldgaard combined to go 7-14 and drove in 4 of the 5 Stars runs. Davis has reached base in 8 of his 10 plate appearances with 4 hits and 4 walks. Mike Walker reached base 3 times and Nick Shaw reached twice and scored twice including on a wild pitch in the 5th.

After committing 2 errors last night, the Stars had a clean night in the field.

Huntsville Play By Play

Chattanooga tried to pull this one out in the 9th, scoring a run on Uber-Prospect Yasiel Puig's solo home run to lead off and getting the tying run on base with 2 outs before Medlen struck out pinch hitter Blake Smith to end it.

Chattanooga Bottom of the 9th

Pitching Change: Casey Medlen replaces Brian Garman, batting 9th.

Yasiel Puig homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field.

J. T. Wise pops out to third baseman Mike Walker in foul territory.

Omar Luna flies out to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard.

Bobby Coyle singles on a soft line drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Blake Smith replaces Dashenko Ricardo.

Blake Smith called out on strikes.

Sunday will be a double header to make up for Thursday night's rain out. Ariel Pena will start game 1 and Arcenio Leon will go in the 2nd game. Both games will be a scheduled 7 innings with game 1 to start at 1:15 Central time.

Final: Brevard County 2 Daytona 4

Daytona Game Story

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Cubs, thanks to six shutout innings of relief from RHP Yao-Lin Wang (W, 1-0) and LHP Frank Del Valle (S, 1), doubled up the Brevard County Manatees 4-2 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Saturday night.

Wang and Del Valle both tossed three innings in relief of starter LHP Austin Kirk. Kirk surrendered two runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts, but Wang and Del Valle shut the Manatees down for the remainder of the game.

Wang only allowed one hit and issued one walk with three strike outs, and Del Valle also only surrendered just one hit with a walk and six strikeouts. The Cubs bullpen has not allowed a run over its last 13 innings of work and the Daytona pitching staff has struck out 32 Manatees over the first three games of the season.

Trailing 2-0 after three innings, Daytona plated three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. RF Jorge Soler led off the frame with a walk, then 2B Stephen Bruno was hit by a pitch on his right hand. With runners on first and second, LF John Andreoli dropped down a bunt about five feet to the right of the third baseline and about 40 feet from home. Manatees' third baseman Brandon Macias threw wide to first so Andreoli was credited with an infield single and an error was charged to Macias allowing Soler to score and both Bruno and Andreoli to advance to third and second respectively. 1B Ben Carhart then grounded a ball to shortstop which scored Bruno and C Micah Gibbs dunked a ball over the shortstop Yadiel Rivera's head which plated Andreoli giving the Cubs the lead.

Soler added an insurance run with a solo home run to lead off the seventh which landed on the back-side of the Cubs' batting cages beyond the left field fence. Both Soler and Andreoli have hit safely in each of the first three Cubs games this season.

Bruno reached base safely three times with two singles and the hit-by-pitch and 3B Tim Saunders went 3-4 with three singles. Soler finished 2-3 with the home run and a walk.

With the win, the Cubs (2-1) are now tied for first place in the Florida State League with the Dunedin Blue Jays and Tampa Yankees both losing on Saturday.

The Cubs and Manatees will play the final game of their four-game series on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 P.M.

Brevard County Box Score

Another rough night for the BC bats, just two runs on six hits. Cameron Garfield and Greg Hopkins were each 2-4 with a double. Brandon Macias was on base three times with a triple, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Chadwin Stang had the only other Brevard hit. Nick Ramirez drew a walk and had the only RBI of the game on a sac fly. Brandon Macias had a throwing error and John Dishon recorded an outfield assist for the second night in a row.

Brooks Hall started and gave up three runs, two earned, over four innings of work. He walked two and struck out four. Jacob Barnes followed with two scoreless innings. Eric Marzec pitched the seventh, allowing a run on a home run to Cubs prospect Jorge Soler. Stephen Peterson worked a scoreless eighth.

Brevard County Play-By-Play

The Manatees could have had a big inning in the third but managed just one run

Brevard County Top of the 3rd

Chadwin Stang grounds out, shortstop Javier Baez to first baseman Ben Carhart.

Brandon Macias triples (1) on a line drive to center fielder Zeke DeVoss.
