I'm guessing that the biggest reason K-Rod is closing is to prove to other teams that he's still a closer, driving up his trade value. Henderson's not getting traded, and he's our closer the rest of the season and for the foreseeable future.

 

Trading K-Rod, Axford (paid too much next year for the Brewers to keep), Gonzalez and maybe others will open up spots for "2014 auditions" in the 'pen for the rest of this season. With the pitching we have in the minors, we should be able to field a homegrown bullpen for years to come, keeping the cost down there. It'd be nice to not have to spend millions every offseason to patch the holes in the bullpen.
