Do any of you collect baseball cards of the Brewers?

The stache
Great posts on here. I collect as well, much more so in the past than now just because of a lack of time. I still make sure to get the Topps set every year and have some decent stuff. My current favorite though is worth about $1 and is a book that my son and I have as a project. We are trying to get a card of every single guy that has ever played for the Brewers. The trick of it is that they have to be in a Brewers uniform. There are some guys that pretty much make completing it impossible, (Yorvit Torrealba for one) but it is a cool and cheap thing that my son and I can do together. I'd say that we have about 100 guys or so to go.

That's awesome Doc. I plan on doing that too. I was gonna start this week while I was on spring break. I wanted to get each players first Brewers card signed. Trying to keep it to Topps if possible. The first thing I was gonna do was just make a list to see which cards I'd be searching for. Aaron will be the most expensive one... I'm hoping the rest I can get through the mail...

Thanks Bikeage. Topps was our original goal as well until we saw the number of guys that are only in a Brewers uniform on a police set or something else, and not on a Topps card with us at all. Even relatively bigger name guys who were only here a short time are difficult (thinking Jim Abbott and Jason Bere specifically for some reason.) Also, not to be morbid but by my count there are unfortunately 29 guys who've played here but that have passed on.

I apologize if some of these are re-scans of stuff I posted before, but this thread made me want to do some more scans of stuff I have. I pretty much have every Peralta card/variation above a serial # of 50, so all the ones posted are numbered to 50 or less. Thanks for the look!

Really high on Logan, and hope to see him getting some playing time.

Some nice cards JRod. Did you collect the Turkey Red this year? I'm missing about 7 from getting the whole set. Also, Jean Segura has one of the worst signatures I've seen in awhile.

I didn't get in on the Turkey Red this year, I just purchased singles. I like the look of them though! Good luck completing the set! And yeah, Segura's auto is...interesting.

I collect the team sets of the Brewers, I don't focus on individuals. I'm attempting to collect all the Brewers team sets, but as RockCoCougars alluded to, too many high-end sets back in the last decade.

I had a good friend who got the Bevacqua card in a pack. Robin had to have been 19 in that video, and old enough to drink the Schlitz! I believe Mike Hegan was in there as well.

Hey guys, I HAVE to share this. I went and picked up a case of 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen yesterday and I pulled three 1/1 bat barrels in one case! I have them up on ebay for sale right now, but thought you guys would like a look at them!

I've been thinking about this for awhile now, and pulled the trigger last night. I bought a lot of 15 raw Griffey Jr rookies. I plan on going through and sending in the ones that can at least get 9's. If 2 can get 10's I'm up 150ish.

It's a calculated risk, but Upper Deck cut everything really well, so the main thing is the centering. Worst case scenerio is selling the rest off in smaller lots and taking a minimal loss or breaking even.

Are any of you thinking about diving in on the Topps Tribute cards? They go on sale on the 10th I believe. I dunno what they go for, but it looks like it won't be cheap. 350 a box?

But each card will only have 250 made....and 30 cards a box.... 3 relics and 3 autos a box... weighing my options here. It's a lot of money...

Bikeage, I am very leery about dropping that kind of scratch on a box of extra thick Topps cards. The cards themselves are nice, but they've had all kinds of quality issues. Horribly messed up corners, edges, etc. Five Star last year was a disaster.

I wait for people to drop hundreds on a couple of boxes, then cherry pick the cards I want from Ebay. I'm willing to pay a little more when I can see a high quality scan, and know what I'm getting.

Yah, I think I got a little excited about the scans on the Topps page. I'm sure I wouldn't hit anything like what they are showing. I was looking at it more for a buy-thrill-flip type thing, but I'm just gonna hold off.

I did love the Turkey Reds. If they run those again next year I'm gonna go all out for em on the pre-order

I've had limited success with the boom or bust boxes. They're pretty difficult to flip for any profit unless you list them within a day or so of release. Really, to turn a profit, you have to hit a major card of a major name. I wish they would follow the Upper Deck model on those, and just limit or get rid of the base cards. They have very little value, and it's just something more that I have to find room to store. In a product like that, just give me the hit cards.

buy singles of tribute. i've seen a few box breaks and all have been rough. 300 on ebay can get you a lot further on singles then buying a box will. 300 will probably buy you a hank aaron or cal ripken auto and still leave you enough to buy 5 more hits of decent players. i've seen autos of segura, gallardo, and molitor so far but i'm sure braun is in there aswell.

Thanks DocLuna for the research.

It's possible to find signed items for most if not all of the Brewers. It gets to be problematic when you have to have them all on a type of thing (gum card, SS baseball, 8x10, etc).

Some Latin players are pretty scarce (Pena, Polidor, Suero), as they died young and didn't do many (if any) US card shows.

I have a Dan Thomas hand written & signed letter. That was the most difficult signature for me to buy considering the circumstances of his life and death.

I didn't know that Carlos Velazquez was deceased and I forgot about Andy Replogle (last year)

Ed Kirkpatrick has also passed.

I somehow skipped over Kuenn and cosider McMillan a coach as he intermed for 2 games.

Pat Dobson was the other coach deceased from memory.

Oops, I had missed Kirkpatrick. That makes it unfortunately up to 30 former players that have passed away. Agreed on McMillan, just that "officially" he counts per the media guide at least.
