All Things Yuni

In limited time last year, Murphy had a higher OPS (.660) than Betancourt (.656), and his OBP (.281) was much better than Betancourt's (.256). Add that to Murphy's superior range, and this move makes even less sense. However, it's not worth getting that upset about. Any sane franchise would get rid of him once Hart, Bianchi, and Green are all ready to go. I'm not sure about the Brewers though.

I am enjoying all the GIFs though.

So we could possibly be one serious injury from having Yuni as an every day starter someplace on our infield?

Cool.

Don't worry guys, RR will find a way to get him at bats, that you can be sure of.

For all the grief that Yuni gets (and deserves), he came up clutch late in 2011.

I'm okay with the move. He can occupy SS or 2B.

Until we get back to full health, there's room for him.

I'd rather have Donnie Murphy for the simple fact that he is not Yuni. I know Yuni, I've seen Yuni. If Murphy is just as bad or worse at least I haven't had the experience of him making me want to destroy things yet.

And a major league deal? Words fail to accurately describe the anger and sadness I feel.

Reyunited and it feels so good. I'll add to the .gifness:

This is what I think of when anyone mentions Yuni B, since half the internet explodes with anger/rage/sadness, while people like me just shrug and carry on.

Based on what the options were looking like, I'm glad to see Yuni back in the fold. Once they signed Lohse I figured there was no way they were going into the season with Blake Lalli, Donnie Murphy, and Khris Davis as the back end of their bench.

Visquel is 104 and Id rather him be on the brewers bench then yuni. Doug went the entire off-season without doing anything too stupid, then he shoots himself in the foot twice in a week. Can We blame this week on delayed hysteria from the scorpion?

I think Yuni sucks, but so does Donnie Murphy. One scrub just replacing a different scrub.

So long as no other injury happens which resulted in Yuni starting at SS or 2nd, it's hard for me to get overly stressed about him replacing Donnie Murphy to be the 24th/25th man on the roster who shouldn't see the field much.

The more troubling aspect to me is that Melvin couldn't come up with a better solution at firstbase so that Gonzalez could be the utility infielder, and thus a final roster spot wouldn't come down to Yuni or Murphy who both are scrubs.

Oh yeah, the play where a halfway decent SS makes it to the ball and doesn't have to toss it behind his back because he got to the ball way late.

Nice gif's TLB and DLK9 ... we should make a contest on who can find the best gif to go with the statement of "Brewers sign Yuni B to a Major League contract"

To be fair to Yuni, the entire team went to "little league" defense and hitting mode in that game.

The Brewers have a .593 regular season winning percentage with Betancourt not just on the roster but the starting SS. I think he's a clear upgrade on the bench over a guy (Murphy) with career numbers of .205/.270/.373, and who was booting balls this spring all over the infield.

The problem isn't that Yuni is any worse than Donnie Murphy. In fact, he's probably better.

The problem is if Murphy is the 25th man, he's gonna ride the pine because he's Donnie Murphy and RR has no familiarity with him. Now if Yuni is the 25th man, you just know there's no way RR can contain himself because he has the great, proven Yuniesky Betancourt on the bench, and he's a GREAT RBI MAN when there's a runner on 3rd with less than 2 down, or he made that GREAT DOUBLE PLAY a few yrs back, so he should obviously get a few days in at SS to keep Segura fresh even though you have a much more capable backup SS already on the roster.

Point being, when you have a manager like RR, you need to idiot proof the roster (kinda like what Beane did with Howe and traded all the crap players he would play).

Gobias,

You won't get an argument from me on your point. I think Gonzalez at 1B is wrong headed. But why couldn't he just move Gonzalez to SS and play Yuni at 1B if he wants to rest Segura? We are in agreement that makes more sense.

But the did win a ton of game with Yuni at SS too, which disproves most on here who had said that it was going to be a disaster. It wasn't.
