As much as people here despise Yuni, I'm in the group that would much rather have him than Donnie Murphy on the roster. He can play multiple positions (below average, but he's no Braun on the infield), he still does have some power and I think people tend to hate him a lot more than they should have.

I'm not overly happy to have him back, but he's better than Donnie Murphy IMO.

Well of course. By naming your backup SS as your starting 1B, you now need a backup SS, even if that player is not nearly as good a defender as the guy who's standing on first base.

I couldn't imagine there could be any other options to solve this puzzle.

On a completely unrelated topic, we need to figure out how to find playing time for the two first basemen in AAA, since both of them seem to be decent hitters and only play first base.

With Rogers and Green going on the 15-day DL (still on 40-man), how does Yuni fit into the 40-man limit?

the roster was at 39 as of this morning. a spot is open for the yuni-bomber (if he does indeed sign a major league contract).

I'd put him at 1b and let Gonzalez go back to his backup SS position. Yuni had a red hot spring for the Phillies. What this does roster wise? I'm thinking they'll try and get Bianchi through waivers.

I also smell a deal cooking involving Gonzalez to a team needing a SS for an actual 1B. Brewers and Gonzalez could have had an understanding that if a team inquired about him to start, that the Brewers would try and move him.

bear in mind that this move allows donnie murphy to play at nashville. he'd be just an injury away from being called up. we haven't gotten any indication if murphy has an opt-out clause in his contract if he's not added to the major league roster by a certain date, but a player of his caliber likely wasn't able to negotiate an opt-out clause any earlier than late may/early june.
