Daric Barton

I was reading on MLBTR and it sounds like Daric Barton probably won't make Oakland's OD Roster... Barton is out of options... I would like to see Doug make a move for Daric to play 1B until Corey returns... Once Corey is back, Daric would make a nice Bench bat.

In 2010 when he was healthy, Daric put up these numbers:

G - 159

AVG - .273

SLG - .405

OPS - .798

2B - 33

HR - 10

BB - 110

K - 102

pretty bad doesn't sum it up...he's been awful since the end of 2010

i would much rather see if we have someone who could replace Corey in house and possibly for next year than bring in a nothing player like Daric Barton

He's hit 1 HR in 349 major league AB's since 2010. He's been basically George Kottaras without the power. Still if OBP is your thing, it's hard to ignore a .407 career OBP in the minors and though he hit just .255 at AAA last year his OBP was .417. He also has more walks 446, than strikeouts, 382 in the minors.

He just doesn't fit the mold of a corner infielder and can't run either.

I know Daric Barton has been awful the last two years, but I wouldn't discount the idea of getting him without first taking at look at the guy. I'd review film, get some scouts out to see him, etc. You'd have to feel as if he could get his swing back - if not, forget it.

As pointed out, Barton's 2010 was actually really, really good. He was a 5.0 WAR player that year.

No, he doesn't have a lot of power, but he has exceptional on base skills, and he's a great fielder.

He is only 27, so he still has the chance to 'figure it out'. He's shown the ability at the major league level. I guess the key comes down to if the team feels he's salvageable. A change of scenery might be exactly what he needs.

I knew him in the AFL, and he was a trainwreck. He made Jeremy Brown look like a choir boy.

The first thing I thought when I saw this thread was how much you panned Barton's attitude. Yours isn't the only opinion I've heard of Barton to essentially say he's a jackwagon.

No thanks. If he were a good player, I could look past the personal crap.

Interesting. I didn't know anything about Barton's makeup. Certainly a big reason to stay away. The Brewers have done well by keeping jackasses away from the roster, spoiling the atmosphere. If he's as much a jackweed as you guys say, I'd avoid him.
