Jean Segura Scouting Report

Bernie Pleskoff provides a thorough (and very complimentary) scouting report on Brewers SS, Jean Segura:

Some highlights:

"Segura has a tremendous future as a multi-tooled middle infielder. His current game is just fine, but his upside is outstanding. We haven't even begun to see the talent Segura brings to his game."

"Segura's speed certainly doesn't take a back seat to his stellar hitting ability. Above-average Major League-quality defense, sufficient arm strength and throwing accuracy are all part of his game. That current lack of raw power may be the only thing that keeps him from being a true five-tool player. "

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

It's refreshing to see an accurate description of Segura's current defensive ability, as opposed to an analyst heading into observing him believing that he'll see a player that will match the old reports of a decent 2B who won't cut it at SS, and then focusing on any & all instances where that bias is reinforced as rock-solid proof.

Between the reports on Hellweg and Segura, I'm thrilled w/ the Greinke trade. I loved watching Segura play last year, and agree with the scout that he looks like he is going to be really good when he fully realizes his potential.

It was informative about Segura, however,it was written like a freshman High School English Composition paper. That received a D. I can't imagine with the money milb.com is bringing in that they couldn't afford a copy editor to correct articles like this, heck I'd offer to do one now and then for free if it meant not having to read through poorly written articles like that....

Aren't most scouting reports written like that?

Maybe for internal use, but I've never seen that at baseball America or perfect game or many other sites. If that is the standard practice then maybe that could explain why so many can't miss prospects do miss
