Mike Carp DFA

Any reason the Brewers should look at him? 488k salary this year Arb years the following 3.

I guess the question is:

Who do you want more? Mat Gamel? or Mike Carp? Mike Carp or Taylor Green?

edit add: He is 26 going in to 27 with more experience than combined by Gamel/Green.

I'll pass. Just seems like a poor man's Ishikawa to me, albeit a slightly younger version.

I would definitely rather have Gamel as I think he still has more upside. Green too only because he's more versatile and can fill in at 2B or 3B.

Give a little credit where it's... due

McCalvy blog post

Mariners general manager Jack Zdurencik told me tonight that he was engaged with a “good number” of teams about Mike Carp, the outfielder-first baseman designated for assignment last week, and was closing on a trade.

“I would say there’s a good chance we get something done in the next 24-48 hours,” Zdurencik said.

Could he go to the Brewers? Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin, Zdurencik’s former boss when Zdurencik was the Brewers’ amateur scouting director, confirmed he’d called about Carp but reiterated he was focused at the moment on finding an internal solution to the club’s first base quandary.

He has a bad shoulder and doesn't really fit a need since he is left handed so isn't really the OF depth guy we need either. I'd pass on him.

Except Gamel was left handed too and he was going to be the 5th outfielder once Hart returned. I imagine Davis will be 5th OF until Hart returns under that scenario. I'd be okay with Carp. He wasn't all that bad in 2011, and has played some OF. Now if he has shoulder issues that prevented him from playing OF, then that's a problem.

I hope Doug makes a deal for Carp... He's a Gamel clone... Bats LH and plays 1B, LF & RF.
