Any recommendations for what is the best site(s) for free fantasy baseball?

I'm setting up a league for friends and family. I haven't done fantasy baseball for 10-12 years. I'm looking for something that is free and easy to set up. And easy to manage, since quite a few of the people playing aren't hardcore baseball fans. We're looking to do basic rotisserie baseball - no keepers or anything like that. I am going to have about 10 people - so I was thinking of doing an NL only league.

I know some of the big sites have free leagues - ESPN, CBS sports, yahoo, mlb.com. Am I missing any other good sites? Any recommendations as to what's best for my situation?

Appreciate the help.

I'm in a league that we started way back in 1984. For the last 15 (20?) years or so we have used CBS. However, we use the pay version (commissioner). It's about $150, but we have 11 people, so when you divide that fee out among everyone, it really does not come to that much. I can't speak too much for the other sites or options, but we have never really had any complaints with CBS.

I will make this comment regarding 10 people and doing NL only. We have 11 people and do NL only. We have 23 players on each team. We end up getting down to some fairly "peripheral" type players (i.e. platoon players, middle relievers, etc). So, if you have several people in the league that are not exactly "hardcore" baseball fans as you stated, then you may want to consider expanding your team selection, especially now that the NL only has 15 teams. I'm not sure about the free version on CBS, but the commissioner fantasy baseball product allows you to choose leagues (NL or AL) or choose individual teams. For example, since we are a keeper league, we are slowly fazing out Houston. So, this year we are using NL + Houston.

For a fairly simple and easy setup MLB's fantasy is nice. It is set up like a NFL style fantasy. You submit your roster for the week and you are done. No pitchers but there are pitching staffs. 1 C 1 1B 1 2B 1 SS 1 3B 3 OF 1 UTIL and 1 Pitching staff. Fairly easy to set up and play.

You really can't go wrong with yahoo.

I have a yahoo league that has been running for 8 years. The draft is always smooth, and the stats, standings etc are always on time. It is also very easy to use, and you can customize your league to fit your needs.

No complaints with yahoo at all!

Love Fantasy Baseball! I really only have experience with ESPN. I find nothing wrong with them. I've drafted with Yahoo but never ran through the season with roster moves.

Anyway, if anyone has a League they want an owner I'm willing. If it's a Keeper/Dynasty League I'd also take over a team. The buyin price should be reasonable though...over $50 and I'm on the fence on joining.

Just set up an auction league on Yahoo and looking for teams to fill it. This would be the first year of the league so all settings would be up for discussion/debate before the season begins. If possible would like to set it up with 4 keepers a year and keep this league up for as long as possible. Personally haven't ever done an auction league with Yahoo, but have used them for several years in regular draft leagues.

League is open to public viewing so settings and scoring can be seen at the url below and I copied the most important info below. If anyone is interested in joining the league pm me your email address and I will send over an invite. Thinking either starting the first year with no entry fee or up to $20 a team unless everyone wants to go higher. Would also like to possibly set up the option for charging for roster moves. Maybe $.25 per add/drop and $1 per trade or something similar.

Roster Positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL

Batters Stat Categories: Runs ®, Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Total Bases (TB), On-base Percentage (OBP), Net Stolen Bases (NSB)

Pitchers Stat Categories: Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Quality Starts (QS), Net Saves (NSV)

I have 2 public leagues on ESPN looking for teams. They are free, but hoping they stay competitive throughout the year.

National League of Professional Fantasy Baseball Clubs

12-team 5x5 roto NL-Only. Snake draft is Sunday March 24th @ 5:00pm (CT)

American League of Professional Fantasy Baseball Clubs

12-team 5x5 roto AL-Only. Snake draft is Sunday March 24th @ 7:30pm (CT)

Both are pretty standard settings, only custom changes are Saves Plus Holds and FAAB bidding.

Hi,

I'm recruiting a replacement owner for a dynasty franchise keeper league going into its 4th year. The owner moved out of country and we need someone to take over the team. It's a well thought out and competitive keeper league. Most of owners are Wisconsin guys brewer fans, and some participants are active here on bf.net.

Some key league details:

- Entry fee is $50. Payouts are $350/$150/$50 + $50 for regular season first place.

- League play is in Fantrax.

- Auction style draft. The auction is actually held in ESPN, results imported to Fantrax.

- Auction currently scheduled for March 27 at 8pm central. There may be some flexibility but it would be outstanding if the owner could meet the currently scheduled time.

- Head to Head scoring

- Teams have a $280 team budget. Roster is filled out via keepers and auction.

- Teams must keep a minimum of 8 players, but we could drop the requirement down to 6 for a replacement owner if desired.

- Teams are allowed to keep up to $125 in salaries. There is no limit in the # of keepers below $125

- The league offers a combination of one year and multi year player contracts.

- 25 man MLB roster, 5 player minors roster. Minors draft is seperate after the auction.

If you are interested PM me or email springtrainingdynasty@gmail.com

Thanks!

I'm looking to fill a few spots in a head-to-head all MLB league. Draft is through yahoo next Monday (3/25) at 7 pm. $20 entry. Pretty standard categories but also added OPS, K/9, K/BB.

Not sure if anyone else is using CBS Sports for the baseball commissioner product. If so, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the recent "upgrade" to the league home pages? We have been using CBS for about 13 years now. For the most part they are pretty good at taking feedback from users and making improvements on a yearly basis based on that feedback. However, yesterday, they rolled out completely new look to the league pages and it leaves some things to be desired, especially when it comes to the new "message board" that they have integrated into the site. I think it was all well-intended, but the feedback in our league thus far has been largely negative.

Patrick--Totally agree with the CBS Sports new layout. I've personally never been a real fan of their fantasy sites as I don't feel they are anywhere near as user friendly as other sites but the new layout is terrible in my opinion. I don't need the full story for each player, and an additional link to the story again on the other side of the page. The only thing I can think is that they are trying to get more recognition for the actual writers of each story but it certainly is not needed. It took me a few minutes to even find the message board feature for the one league I actually have on CBS.

Our league uses the message board a lot and the new one is terrible. Of the many problems, one of the major ones is that if someone sends you a private message and you reply via email (most of us have it set up so that anything posted to the message board goes to our email), it gets posted to the entire league. A couple of owners found that out the hard way as they were talking trades with each other.

Question, I drafted Gomez and Aoki as late round guys. Had to drop one of them so dropped Gomez early. He's now obviously doing well. Who do you think is best for the rest of the year? Runs, OBP, HR, SB, Slugging, RBI.

Aoki - Runs, OBP,

Gomez - HR, Slugging, RBI

I think SB is a coin flip. I'd probably roll with Aoki because I like guys who get on base.

I would have to lean towards Aoki as well. While I think Gomez is the upside play for this season, I would have to take the conservative approach and go with Nori.
