Don't see it here anywhere but to make room for Gonzalez, the Brewers designated Arcenio Leon. I didn't quite understand why the Brewers claimed him from the Astros of all people in the first place after looking at his numbers, so this was the logical move.

Teams seem to claim anyone and everyone during the offseason only to DFA them a few days later. Doug probably saw him and thought he might be ok but had no plans of actually holding on to him.

I'd agree but only to the extended thought (of your last sentence) . . . "no plans of holding on to him unless they could land other & better options via FA or trade."

 

You have to add guys any way you can but also hopefully continue to up the talent quotient at the MLB level (well, all levels, actually). In essence, Badenhop, Gorzelanny, & Gonzalez bumped a few more high-end young guys to more likely slotting at AAA to begin with, which then bumps a very fringe guy like Arcenio Leon off the 40-man. Hopefully we'll at least be able to keep him in our system.

leon's been outrighted to the minor leagues. he's still in the organization. he'll be in major league camp in arizona as a non-roster invitee.
