Did he ever retire? I thought he was taking a year off to have some experimental cartilage replacement surgery, then hoped to resume his career. Seeing as his stats were always pretty good (OBP/SLG), and we've seen other overmatched raw power guys succeed with greater chances to develop (Nelson Cruz, Johnny Gomes, Jose Bautista, etc), I always thought he had a slight chance to carve out an MLB niche. Does anyone know of any updates that my googling skills aren't finding? I miss having his power sitting in AAA.

dude has light tower power and a cannon for an arm. i never really understood why he never got much of a shot. i know he strikes out a lot but kinda figured he might have gotten a sept call up or something.
