uh oh!

TURBO

According to MLBTradeRumors.com, free agent infielder Yuniesky Betancourt expects to land somewhere soon.

"I can assure you that Yuni will be signing a major league contract," agent Alex Esteban told MLBTR. "Currently, there are four teams we are in conversations with and we expect to be finalizing a deal shortly after the holidays." Betancourt, 30, hit just .228/.256/.400 with seven homers and 36 RBI in 57 games this past season for the Royals.

I sincerely hope the Brewers are not possibly one of those 4 teams.

as a back-up, you can bet that our manager would look for ways to get him playing time though, even if that meant starting him to rest players, etc. If he got 2 starts a week, that is 2 too many.

I just hope we are not in on him in any way, shape or form.

I highly doubt it's the Brewers. Melvin's in budget mode, and Bianchi is at least as good a player as Yuni for less money.

You guys can knock Yuni all you want but he was the starting SS on the Brewer team with the most wins in its history. That year he led the NL in sacrifice flies (10), hit .270 and slugged .429 in the 2nd half, and was 3rd on the team in RBI with 68. He also hit .310/.326/.500 in the postseason. Had a few of his teammates performed that well, they might have gotten a little further.

I for one would have no problem with him as a utility guy, if for the sole reason to drive those with irrational dislike for him nuts.

I hope he's not on the Brewer's radar for a Backup SS. Yes he produced offensively THAT year, but the guy doesn't work the count(unless he's swings and misses) and has a really poor .278BaBIP for his career! He's a Negative WAR player awful defensively. The guy avgs. LESS Than .5% walk rate career! So, you're looking at a guy who likely in decline as a Backup, cant get OB around a .270clip and is a liability defensively. For that just give me Bianchi! And you would have to assume he declines by not playing everyday!

Actually the dislike for him has been rationally dicussed and beat into the ground so many times it's not even worth discussing.

Betancourt is fine as a utility player where you can mostly slot him in vs LHP and hopefully hide is dreadful range at 2B more than at SS. I'm glad we didn't sign him but he has a use in the league. He just hasn't been a starting quality player for most of his career.
