I like it! He had a nice 2012 in Washington... Tom can get both lefties and righties out! Ok Doug get us one of Rauch, Farnsworth and Frasor now! And let's roll with a bullpen of:

Axford

Henderson

Kintzler

Gorzelanny

Badenhop

Narveson

That last spot in the bullpen can go to a FA... And if Doug can find the right deal, get us a Veteran SP to put behind Yo!

I liked Gorzy when he was a bucco, excited to root for him again as a brewer! good 5th starter/spot starter and bullpen arm.

I really like this signing. Gorzelanny can work as a LOGGY, but also has the versatility to work against RHH, and as a long-man or starter. He was a guy I was hoping Melvin would target. Now I'd prefer to get Rauch, Frasor, or Farnsworth, and then I'd like the look of the pen a lot better. One starter left who I think could be a possibility on a one-year deal is Brett Myers. I'd kick the tires on him too.

I like the signing too ... 2 yrs at $10 mil - I'll take it.

Are you just speculating, or is that really the deal? I like the pickup, but not at 2 years / $10MM.

2 yrs at $10 mil? He was non-tendered after making $3 mil last year. I was assuming closer to $5-6 mil.

They non tendered him because he was going to make more next season than they wanted to pay. That not the same as Washington thinking he wasn't worth what he made last season. I find it hard to believe he would not get at least a small raise as a free agent lefty who can both start or relieve. Maybe not as much as he would have got in arbitration but more than the $3 million he made last season. I'd guess around $8 million or so.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I think of Gorzelanny similar to Narveson which makes me wonder if they still view Narveson as a starter or if they just don't think he will be back from injury.

Edit: Since I mentioned him, Happy Birthday Chris Narveson.

Gorzellany already successfully made the transition to reliever last year. I don't think the Brewers signed him to start. Narveson on the other hand, has shown he's better as a starter, so my guess is he's going to get that opportunity. He may well end up in the pen, but my guess is he's going to get a shot at the 5th starter job.

Gorzellany isn't overpowering but he's not your classic lefty soft tosser either. He has an average major league fastball and knows how to pitch. It's a good addition.

From MLBtraderumors.com:

"The Nationals non-tendered Gorzelanny last month instead of offering him arbitration. Gorzelanny had a projected salary of $2.8MM entering his final year of arbitration eligibility, but he hit free agency a year early instead."

According to that, the Nationals released him because they didn't want to pay him around $2.8MM in 2013. If true, I'd hope the Brewers would get him for around 2 years / $5-6MM.

Right, I added in the $3 mil for a reference point. If Washington didn't think he was worth 1 yr/2.8 mil or so (MLB Trade Rumors projected the $2.8 mil figure on 10/29/12) that he would have gotten in arbitration in 2013, I have a hard time believing Melvin thought he was worth 2 yr/10 mil. That second year is key too.
