Gamel for Pitching

I think it's been pretty obvious over the past two years that Taylor Green's far preferable over Gamel at 3B & the Brewers would prefer Gamel only playing 1B or the OF, never playing 3B again unless they're in a total pinch w/ no better solutions (or unless they're going so well that they can put Gamel's horrid glove at 3B w/o concern for the defensive results).

Bench players in MLB don't hit nearly as well as Gamel.

He has a career .296 wOBA, which is pretty bad for a 1B/OF. Granted it's still a small sample, but he has had brief chances across four consecutive seasons and just has never looked that good, imo, not even in small bursts. Yeah his minor league numbers are solid, but that doesn't always translate.

In contrast, for example, Ishikawa has a career .320 wOBA and is a plus defender at 1B.

I thought Gamel looked really good last year before his injury. He is a great base runner and is the definition of a baseball player. He has never had a chance to get enough ABs for the production to show. He had an LD% over 29%, and has never been below 26% any year of his career.

Over time his luck will come around and the production will be there. Yes, I do think that LD% will come down over the course of a full season.

Don't trade him. He has value off the bench.
