Sinkerballer/groundball-inducing righty. Not as bad so far in his career against LHB as Loe, and in general seems like a moderate upgrade over Loe.

Under salary control for two more seasons.

EDIT: Here is a good FanGraphs interview piece w/Badenhop. Very statistically-inclined guy (economics degree-holder), and very much likes defensive shifting like the Brewers employ.

Guess this is good as long as he isn't used in high leverage situations. The ERA last year was most likely a fluke, skills still point to a 3.50-3.75 ERA RP which is nothing great. Hopefully we use him properly since we never managed to use Loe properly.

Sounds like the Rays were considering non-tendering him, and may have had a deal in place with the Brewers prior to last night's non-tender deadline. He's not outstanding, but should be a solid middle reliever.

EDIT: Per Haudricourt, Melvin just confirmed the deal was put together last night

Not crazy about it, hopefully we have at least 2-3 relievers on the opening day roster that are better
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

i remember the brewers lighting him up when he was a starter on the marlins too

seems odd that espn headline is "Rays acquire Mondesi Jr in trade with brewers". I know he is the son of a former major leaguer but has done nothing to show he is anything like his dad so far.

i like the trade, with respect to, getting another arm without having to give much. sort of like the veras trade last season, even though obviously mcgehee was a major leaguer with a track record and not a rookie baller.

Yea, use him as not the long reliever, but instead the guy who comes in say the 5th/6th/7th inning of games where the Brewers are down only 1-3, so the game is still potentially winnable. Avoid though him pitching much in games where a small lead late is trying to be held on to.

This is obviously a minor move but I think it's a nice one. Badenhop projects to be about a 3.50-3.75 ERA guy over about 60-70 innings next season and I've read that he's projected to make about $1.6 million next season. Having a few guys like Badenhop in the bullpen instead of the likes of Tim Dillard, Mike McClendon, and Manny Parra should provide a significant bullpen upgrade.
