college conference reallignment, the future of the big east

patrickgpe
the problem with this conference is their is no team that I can argue could be a #1 seed in the near future. The SEC, ACC, Big 12, and Big 10 all have that. I feel though this league will have more depth than the SEC and the Big 12 atleast.

MU could very well be a #1 or #2 next year.

In the country or in the conference? No way they are a number one in the country type team. They will need a pg and big man if Otule doesnt get a 6th year. Even if he does someone wont be able to come back because they wont have enough schollies. Blue, Gardner, Wilson is nice but not elite. they have a very nice incoming class but that is a lot to ask for freshman

I see that you meant number 1 or 2 seed and there is no way I see that either, but I guess if the freshman are even better than advertised there is a chance that could be a top 15 type team

Yea, #1 or #2 seed. Last I checked, early projections from Value Add had them as the #7 team in the country. Their recruiting class is sick and they should have the most balanced roster in the country. They will also have 5 seniors in Blue, Gardner, Otule, Thomas, and Wilson. Sure its early and a lot can change, but it looks like Blue will be even better than the projections.

i think he meant a #1 or #2 seed, which i believe is very possible as well. They have a top 10 recruiting class and will bring back some very good upperclassmen. This season is definitely a building year between loosing crowder and DJO and next season.

Big East name, MSG tournament venue, get to keep their NCAA tournament revenue shares, leave right away, and a $10M lump sum in cash. Pretty nice deal for those schools, on top of at least doubling their television revenue with Fox and avoiding a conference with the likes of UCF, SMU, and Tulane.

I think the "new" Big East has some really good potential to be a very, very solid basketball conference. You have the 7 current schools, with the additions of Butler, Xavier and by all accounts probably Creighton. With St. Louis and I've heard Dayton in a year or two to make a 12 team conference. They still get the Big East name, the MSG exposure, National TV on Fox. It's a good move for MU, they had no real choice as football rules everything these days.

I also think MU should very easily be in the top 10 next year. They bring back pretty much everyone other than Cadugan and Otule (who could get a 6th year). They have a fantastic recruiting class (on paper) and all the seniors should hopefully improve and provide leadership to the young kids.

i really like the new big east conference. My only complaint is that instead of adding Dayton in 2014-15, i'd look at VCU.I think the conference instantly becomes atleast the 2nd best in the nation behind the big 10. I'm glad that it looks like they aren't looking at detroit mercy like what was reported a few weeks ago.

i find this rich, 3 schools with no football pedigree complaining about their compensation for a league that they haven't even played a game in. In addition no other conference is really asking for them other than the Mountain West, who is still offering them less than the old big east.

really glad that Marquette will no longer have to deal with football issues. I still don't understand why this is holding things up. everything has been agreed to, let the 7 schools leave and figure out how to distribute your 100 million dollars.

Uconn stands out so bad in that new conference. They have really bungled there situation up. They really have to try to get into the ACC. I suppose Uconn, Memphis, Cincy, and Temple isn't a bad 4 Bball schools but the bottom of that conference is just atrocious.

really excited for the New Big East although I am wondering how likely I am to get the new Fox network. That should be a really strong basketball conference.

UConn and Cincy would leave today if they could for the ACC. I don't see the ACC getting any larger though soon and there isn't any good plan B's for them.

I think if you get the SPEED channel now, you should be fine for the FOX1 network. I am not sure if I get it or if I have to buy AT&T's sports package.

The ACC has been pretty clear that they have no interest in UCONN and Cincy. Louisville has a huge athletic budget and is probably one of the top 10 basketball programs and top 30 or so football programs.

If I could set up the conferences myself, I'd make just five or six conferences of just eight teams, all solid from top to bottom. I'd love to see an ACC with just UNC, Duke, NCSU, Wake, Clemson, UVA, VaTech, GaTech, FSU, and Maryland. Home and homes with every team every season, all of these teams would be within about a five hour drive of the epicenter of the conference (with the exception of FSU).

Oh well, bah humbug, so it is. The Catholic 7's new conference should be a very good one, and could easily be the third best conference in the near future after the new look ACC and the BIG.

I think they'll be in the ACC eventually. Someone is going to go to 16 (SEC or Big 10 probably) and after that happens everyone else will go to 16 teams. So if the ACC doesn't just add Cincy and UConn to get to 16 they'll add them to replace two of their current schools who leave. Virginia, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina have all been rumored to go to the Big 10, Florida St and Clemson have been talked about for the Big 12, and Virginia Tech has been mentioned for the SEC. All it takes is one more snowball for the next avalanche.

The most ironic thing is that the ACC is going to end up looking very similar to the way the Big East should look: Boston College, Miami, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Louisville, UConn, Cincinnati. If only West Virginia and Rutgers were there it'd be a solid conference.

i think eventually the pac10, big 10, sec, and acc will be 16. while this would assist in creating a playoff, the issue I have with it, is that school location no longer means anything. I'd like to see a west coast, midwest, south and east coast school competing, but that has long gone away.

EDIT: i meant automatic invites for those 4 conferences and 4 atlarge bids for schools not winning the league title and atlarge teams
