2012-2013 College Basketball thread

Dekker with an absolutely massive 3 pointer to give them the win, after sitting on the bench for about 40 minutes (of real time -- 15 of game time). Bo! Play that man!

Every time Ryan Evans takes a jump shot, I yearn for Dekker to start taking more of his minutes. I don't hate Evans; he does a lot of things well... but a shooter of any kind, he is not.

With less than a second left, you should be guarding the hoop more than anything else. Make them take a long, contested jumper in less than a second. You can't give up a layup there. I find it funny because I can't stand IU or Tom Creen but that's just horribly bad defense right there.

This could really be a crazy tournament come March. I think that every year, but this year there just aren't any really good teams IMO. There is no Kentucky from last year where you knew they'd likely win. As we've seen, all the top teams are vulnerable...most of them have lost to unranked teams (Kansas to TCU, IU to WI/IL for example). I really think there are probably 20-25 teams with a real shot to win the championship, plus you have dark horses or teams that have struggled that could get hot at the right time.

I agree; Kentucky was far and away the best team last year. In 2012-2013 every top team has a weakness and no one has just manhandled the competition. Right now I would probably pick Michigan, Syracuse, Miami(FL), and Duke if Kelly ever gets healthy as my favorites. If I had to pick a National Champ right now I would take Michigan.

There could be a 5 way tie atop the B10 standing after this weekend; that would be pretty crazy. Beating Michigan at home might be enough to get UW a 6 seed or better given the easier schedule they have coming up.

No stand out teams at all, they all can be beaten. I'm not sure who I'd put my money on right now, would be interesting to see a Cinderella step in this year. Could also see this year as a chance for a 1 to finally lose to a 16.

I still think Florida is going to take it. Should be a sweet tournament.

If I had to pick a team at this very moment...it would be Michigan or Florida. While they both are beatable, they seem to have the most talent and have played the best all year. But I could see either losing in the Sweet 16 too. Just no dominant teams. I'm curious to see if WI can stay within range of Michigan tomorrow.

This has to be a great shot for a 16 this year. We had 2 15's last year, and the one seeds just won't be as great as they usually are. It's going to happen someday.

Welp, we broke our household rule by turning off the TV after Michigan's last regulation three and heading out to start errands before the postgame traffic blocked our neighborhood. Ben freaking Brust certainly showed us what for. :)

Great, great win for Wisconsin. But I really have to question a few of the decisions by Bo. Not fouling at the end of regulation was bad, especially when the clocked reach 3 seconds. Two, having Evans in, up 3 with a 1 and 1 coming was stupid. Have him inbound the ball then, then actually inbounding it to him was silly too (as he promptly missed the front end). But not fouling Burke at the end was the worst of all.

Up 3, ten seconds left, THREE fouls to give. You use none of them and give them a chance (and a good look) to tie it. Foul there at least twice starting around the 6-8 second mark. Force them to inbound and make a deep three to tie it. Or even use all 3 fouls and force the to make the front end, miss and score again. I don't mind not fouling if you're worried about the make/miss/hit a three scenario, but I have a huge problem with it under ten seconds withe THREE fouls to give and a 3 point lead. Got lucky Burke missed a good look.

Despite all that, huge win and the Brust shot was certainly one of the bigger highlights that I'll remember. Only thing better would have been if that won the game.

Marquette struggled to put away DePaul but still got the W today as well.

I'm with brwrsfan. For years I've advocated the fouling when up 3. Make it a free throw contest (although Wisconsin doesn't shoot them well this year). I'm glad to see that in the last two or three years more coaches are embracing the concept, but it's amazing how Wisconsin never should have even gotten a chance at a 3 in regulation and Mich shouldn't have gotten a chance in OT. Really, this win is one I credit two people for...Brust's 3 and the Michigan players for not fouling. Still, good to see the other team in the state doing well. With the big upsets, Wisconsin has to be a lock for the tournament, and a likely 7-8 seed.

I give Bielein a pass on not fouling. I mean it took a shot that probably was about a 3% chance of going in to tie the game. That's probably worse odds than the odds of making a free throw, missing, and making a two point shot. As for not fouling during the tie game, Bruiser did foul him. He hacked him pretty good right before that shot but there was no call. Now whether or not Bo called for that I don't know.

I doubt a shot from halfcourt going sideways when you go to shoot it even has a 3% chance of going in. I doubt it's even a 1% of going in.

I think you make that 3 times out of 100. But whatever....point was that if that's the shot that ties the game so be it. Not much you can do.

Honestly, it looked like Bruiser tried to foul Hardaway at the end of regulation as he got screened, and he just completely whiffed hitting his arms or the ball.
