I don't even know what to say aside from, "Oh no."

I'd guess Disney will be churning out a lot of animated stuff for TV in addition to *shudder* Episode 7. Recasting Luke, Leia, Han, etc... yikes.

Now, if Disney somehow can release the cleaned-up but non-special edition original trilogy, then they'd have my attention.

Oh no. It gets worse.

Disney plans to make Episodes 7, 8, & 9.

Disney plans to bring not just one but three new Star Wars films to the big screen, and the companies “have a pretty extensive treatment of the next three movies,” chairman and CEO Bob Iger said in a conference call announcing its deal to acquire Lucasfilm. “Episode 7 will be released in 2015, the first under the Disney/Lucas banner,” he said, with Episode 8 and Episode 9 to follow. Disney plans to release a new Star Wars movie “every two to three years.” Disney also intends to pursue the Star Wars brand in their parks, with games and, “other initiatives,” CFO Jay Rasulo said.

I'm actually somewhat excited about this. The "star wars universe" is so large now with all the books and video games that the movies could go in any number of directions. I'm actually curious to how close to the books they'll stick. Will Grand Admiral Thrawn be the evil character or will it be something entirely new?

I do like what Disney has done with Marvel and all of those movies (Iron Man, Capt America, Avengers, etc). I anticipate that having spent $4 billion on this they are going to try to make as much money off of this deal as possible. Episode VII is the key because if it's a flop then there will be no excitement for Episodes VIII and IX. Because of that I think there will be a lot of thought put into the next trilogy. Beside, I can't imagine it'll be any worse than all of the animated crap they're putting out now.

On a side not the article below has the line "Assuming that Disney can pull of this monumental film, in less than three years, viewers will be treated to “The Avengers 2,” “Justice League,” and “Star Wars Episode VII.” I know Justice League has been rumored but as far I as I could tell it was mostly an unrealistic goal. Does anyone know if Justice League is actually in the works or even being considered?

Hey Star Wars: the Clone Wars is actually a rather good animated series.

Plus if Disney could somehow get the guys who made this opening cinematic for this game would be awesome!

I don't know if Justice League will happen, but I'd imagine they would have to reboot the Superman franchise first.

Episode 1 was awful. Episode 2 and 3 helped redeem the trilogy. I know Lucas originally planned 7-8-9...wonder if they'll use his original plans

From what I read what he intended for episodes 7-9 was actually just put into episode 6. I guess episodes 7-9 were going to be used to kill of the emperor but obviously that happened in episode 6.

The animated series is quite good. The Clone Wars animated movie was god-awful.

But I do think Paul is right to point to the recent superhero stuff Disney has turned out, and you're right to point to the potential of the LucasArts graphics. I guess I'll take a more wait-&-see approach from here on out, as opposed to my doom & gloom instant reaction.

Nah, cast Hamill, Fisher, Ford, etc as there original characters in episode 7 as old people one with the force and make new heroes from there. Maybe their kids or something.

Suddenly I'm not so angry. Don't toy with my emotions!

Or... Episode 7: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

There is quite a lot of post 6 cannon out there.(I believe it is cannon) I hope they skip way past that into the future and go to something completely new. I think Luke and Leia's kids are pretty well defined and have had a lot of stories already.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I was hoping they would go backward in SW time and do movies on the Old Republic. Perhaps something leading up to how the "rule of 2" came to be with the Sith. Epic battles between hordes Jedi and Sith would be pretty cool.

As has been stated in the past by Lucasfilm anything not in the current version of the films is irrelevant to film only continuity. Therefore it does not matter what has been written post episode VI, it can be and likely will be overwritten once these films are made.

I'm optimistic. I don't feel like Disney can screw this up anymore than if Lucas himself were soley in charge. Disney owns Marvel and they seem to have done okay with that brand in my opinion. The new Iron Man looks promising. They let Joss Whedon direct and write Avengers so maybe someone other than Lucas will do the same with episodes 7-9. How can it be worse?

Well cannon is what Disney says it is now but they are probably more concerned about the next trilogy fitting in with the previous six films and not necessarily everything else. I'm sure they will steal an EU character here and there,

Anything that wrestles control of the series away from Lucas is good in my opinion. His creative high point was prior to release of SW4 so all he can do is tarnish the brand....

Now Kevin Smith could be linked to SW7 and I'd have to reconsider my opinion.....
