Soria had his second Tommy John surgery on April 13. He threw a baseball for the first time on 10/3.

Kansas City Star:

Royals officials privately acknowledge the club will exercise a $750,000 buyout clause on Soria’s $8 million option for next season. The deadline for doing so is three days after the conclusion of the World Series.

I would, they both seem like low risk high reward type pitchers which is exactly the kind I want melvin going after

I totally disagree. They don't need a reclamation/rehab projects. They need a steady rubber arm guy. Their bullpen doesn't have to be great. It has to be decent and dependable. They need Salomon Torres types. They also desperately need a quality lefty which they haven't had for years.

They need a guy like Jon Rauch. Rauch isn't flashy nor does he put up anything eye-popping, but he takes the ball, and more often than not he'll get it to the closer who still is Axford. A lefty like J.P. Howell or Sean Burnett is critical to neutralize the Reds two biggest threats.

Soria, yes, Madson, no.

Soria's record prior seemed to be more solid, he's three years younger, and I think he could step in as a closer if Ax struggles again. The fact he put those numbers up for the Royals is all the more impressive.

for the type of contracts those 2 are likely to get I think both are easily worth the risk. I'm not saying they need to just sign those 2 and would be in favor of signing other guys but IMO most bullpen arms are inconsistent year to year.

soria would be worth taking a look at. melvin likes to give blown out former closers 1/10 mil deals though. 1/2.5 mil with a incentive filled option for like 4 mil could be pretty good.

isnt matt capps a free agent? he might be worth taking a look at as well.

I would like melvin to go after both. offer both guys 1 yr deals backloaded with incentives. beneficial to the brewers because it would give us veteran bullpen arms and (hopefully) good 7th & 8th inning guys. Plus if the season isnt going well, we could trade them.

We only need either of them for 1 year because by then we should have a better look at the minor pitchers and if we could move any to the bullpen (Rogers, Thornburg, Pena).

Realistically, I would think Melvin will make an offer to one of them. Make an offer to J.P Howell or Affeldt. Make an offer to Mike Adams or Jason Grille.

So I think our bullpen will look like:

Axford

Henderson

Kintzler

Narveson

*Madson

*Howell

*Adams

It looks like the Reds are interested in Soria. I hope he doesn't enter our division. These guys are getting a decent amount of interest, so I think the only way to entice them to come to Milwaukee would be to demote Axford (not something I would support).

I would give Soria a look for sure. I have always been a fan.

His numbers are really outstanding. If you subtract 2011 when he was obviously pitching hurt, it's 4 years of lights out pitching.
