I believe Bob Nightengale was the first to report this today, after the Reds were eliminated by the Giants. He's had a tremendous career if this is indeed it for him.

He was "certain" HOF'er early in his career. I wonder if he can still ride that early reputation to Cooperstown. Except for the doubles, Aramis Ramirez has put similar or better numbers in 500 fewer at bats, and two years younger. Ramirez compares well to Beltre too. It will be interesting to see how the HOF voters rate these players in the years to come.

I think Rolen doesn't have the counting stats to get in. 3B isn't a position you can get in just on defense, unlike shortstop for example.

I wouldn't expect him to get much support for the HOF but some of the people they have put in there lately make it plausible at least.

His numbers are very comparable to Ron Santo. It took forever for Santo to get in. Rolen will likely stay in the conversation for a long time, but if he gets in, it will take a while.

Pretty similar to Ron Santo, maybe many years from now he gets in but certainly won't get voted in by the writers. Also with the number of alleged performance enhancing guys who will hang on the ballot there is no way he ever gets 75%, just way too much competition.
