Calling David Puddy

FVBrewerFan

So here's the deal. I feel like I'm getting taken for a ride whenever I take a car in for routine maintenance. I'm wondering if any auto mechanics are part of our BF family. Better yet, in the Appleton area. Other than obvious things like oil changes, tires, and wiper blades I have no idea if something is really needed when they say it is. A few recent examples:

- Extra charge for "shop fees" Just seems like a way to make extra money.

-Took a vehicle into one shop, and they said I would need new rear brakes real soon. Took it to a different shop at the next time for oil change, and they told me my FRONT brakes are just about shot- rear is fine. What the ___?

-Went to pick up a car and was told they "found" a nail and removed it, charged me $18 or something like that. Could have happened I guees, but suspicious.

-Hear various opinions from shops on whther transmission flush and/or coolant flush are needed, or a good idea.

These examples are from 4-5 different shops, so it's not like I just found a bad place. In short, I'm looking for that proverbial "honest" mechanic. I'm more than willing to pay for something if it's needed, as long as it's a "fair" price and really is needed.

Maybe I'm just venting, but if any mechanics out there have any suggestions I'm all ears.

Auto Select. Never had any complaints with them.

And I actually had a conversation once with the mechanic who was shuttling me home after I dropped off my car in which he told me how surprising & refreshing he thought it was when he discovered (like on day 1) that they're an honest outfit. Told me he'd worked for several places before AS & the amount of shady dealings was just sad.

But seriously, thanks again. Already called for an appointment, and the guy was very friendly and helpful, so off to a good start.

No problem! I know I was relieved to find these guys; happy to spread the word.
