Sports32 will televise Timber Rattlers playoff game on September 6

 

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Sports32 covered more Wisconsin Timber Rattlers games in 2012 than in any previous season. Now, they are adding at least one Midwest League playoff game to their schedule.

 

Time Warner Cable subscribers in the state of Wisconsin will be able to watch the Timber Rattlers play their first home playoff game since 2005 on September 6th at 6:35 PM. It will be game two of the best-of-three first round series with the Burlington Bees (Oakland Athletics).

 

There is a possibility of two more Sports32 broadcasts of home playoff games. Those broadcasts will depend on if and how far the Timber Rattlers advance in the playoffs.

Morris, Burgos named Brewers’ top Minor Leaguers

On Thursday, MLB.com will release an updated Top 20 prospects ranking for each club, and there were some interesting changes on the Brewers’ list. I’ll just tell you that I was particularly surprised by Morris’ move.

I didn't know where to put this but I read a snippet of Keith Law's post on ESPN about Miguel Sano and at the bottom he had thoughts about Cameron Garfield; "...his bat is slow, he's not a good receiver at all, and he's repeating the league at age 21." Just thought it was interesting as he seems to have had a good year and isn't too old for the league.

Bees shutout Wisconsin to take series lead

Rattlers need a win at home on Thursday to keep season alive

BURLINGTON, IA - Tanner Peters and a pair of Burlington relievers pushed the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers season to the brink on Wednesday night at Community Field. The trio of Bees combined to shutout - and almost completely shut down - the Rattlers 4-0 in Game One of the best-of-three first round playoff series.

 

Bobby Crocker put the Bees in front in the second inning. Max Muncy reached on a leadoff walk. Then, Crocker cracked a line drive home run over the wall in center and Burlington was up 2-0.

 

Burlington tacked on another run in the third inning. Sam Roberts drew a one out walk. He scored when Muncy's two-out fly ball was dropped in left-center field and the Bees were up 3-0.

 

Wisconsin got a leadoff single from Rafael Neda in the top of the second inning. Peters retired the final eighteen batters he faced. He struck out six over seven innings. The only walk he issued was a free pass to Brandon Macias to start the game in the top of the first.

 

Muncy added to Burlington's lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Addison Russell reached on a two out single. Muncy doubled off the wall in right-center and the Bees went up 4-0.

 

Seth Frankoff kept the streak going in the top of the eighth as he retired the three Wisconsin batters he faced.

 

Nick Ramirez snapped the streak at 23 in a row with a two out double in the top of the ninth inning. But, Bees closer Jose Macias finished off the Rattlers with a strikeout to end the game.

 

Game Two of the first round is Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Fond du Lac native Chad Pierce (7-5, 3.47) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Burlington plans on AJ Cole (6-3, 2.07) as their starter. Game time is 6:35pm.

 

The Timber Rattlers will have a bonus Bang for Your Buck Night with soda, hotdogs, and beer for $1 on Thursday night. Plus, Thursday is also a College Night. Tickets are reserved bleacher seats are just $1 with a College ID.

 

If you can't make it to the game and are a Time Warner Cable Subscriber, you can still catch the game on Sports32.

 

The game will also be broadcast on AM1280, WNAM and timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm. MiLB.TV subscribers may also catch the game over the internet.

Well, it's win or go home now for the Rattlers. They have a tough task ahead of them, going against AJ Cole tomorrow night. But at least they are coming back home. Not much in the way of offense tonight. Nick Ramirez had a double for the team's only extra base hit. Cameron Garfield and Rafael Neda each had a single. Brandon Macias drew a walk to leadoff the game. Defensively, Max Walla gunned down a runner at third base and Ben McMahan had an error. Jacob Barnes allowed all four runs, three of which were earned. Mark Williams and Tyler Cravy each worked one scoreless inning of relief.

Voyagers vanquish Brewers 7-3

With the playoffs on the horizon the Great Falls Voyagers are doing their best to heat up in the last couple of games of the season at Kindrick Legion Field. On Wednesday, the Voyagers got off on the right foot and earned a 7-3 victory over the Helena Brewers.

 

Leonard Lorenzo started the game for the Brewers and lasted four innings allowing just one earned run on six strikeouts. Unfortunately, Lorenzo also allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate. Reliever Ryan Fasano followed and let four more Voyager hitters score in two innings of work and was tabbed with the loss.

 

The Brewers did manage nine hits and seven walks in the contest. First baseman Adam Giacalone, who was awarded the honor of Jensen Jewelers MVP during the game on a fan vote, went 0-for-3 on the evening. Giacalone did manage to extend his on base streak to 34 games thanks to a walk in the bottom of the first. If Giacalone can reach base tomorrow night, he'll match the longest on base streak for a Pioneer League player in 2012 at 35.

 

Raul Mondesi Jr. went 2-for-4 on the evening and recorded his sixth triple of the season. Catcher Paul Eshleman also recorded a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jose Pena, Alfredo Rodriguez, Chris McFarland, Emmanuel Quiles and Michael Turay each recorded a hit a piece.

 

The Brewers are home again Thursday night against Great Falls to play in the final game of the 2012 season. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM (8:05 Central).

Brewers can’t hold lead, fall 7-3 against Great Falls

The Helena Brewers took a 3-1 lead after two innings over Great Falls Wednesday, but were shut out the rest of the way as they dropped their second-to-last game of the season to the Voyagers, 7-3.

 

The loss at Kindrick Legion Field in front of 1,150 fans dropped the Brewers to 24-51 on the year.

 

After the hosts put two runs on the board in the opening frame, Helena scored its third and final run in the second inning, when Michael Turay’s perfect hit-and-run single to right field advanced Emanuel Quiles from first to third.

 

Quiles then came home on Raul Mondesi Jr.’s groundout to the shortstop.

 

Great Falls answered back with two runs in the third to tie it up, on three Helena errors and two passed balls.

 

After taking the lead in the fifth, the Voyagers extended their advantage to the final 7-3 margin in the sixth stanza, when they pushed across three more runs.

 

The Electric City crew was led offensively on the night by Justin Jirschele, who went 3 for 5, rapping two doubles and driving in a run. Teammates Patrick Palmeiro and Thomas McCarthy chipped in with two hits apiece.

 

Andrew Virgili pitched the win, while Ryan Bollinger collected the save.

 

Mondesi (triple) and Paul Eshleman paced the Brewers with two base hits each.

 

Ryan Fasano, who relieved in the fifth and sixth innings, was saddled with the loss. Helena starter Leonard Lorenzo worked four innings, giving up two hits and striking out six.

 

NOTE: In a special ceremony after the third inning, Helena first baseman Adam Giacalone was presented with the Jensen Jewelers Brewers’ MVP award.

Close for the 1st half of the game, GF's pulled away with a couple run scoring innings in the middle. Leonard Lorenzo finished the season strong. He got 12 outs allowing only 2 H 1 ER and 1 BB with 6 K. There is some nice upside with Lorenzo but he is 21 and it's not like the overall numbers overly impress. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in Helena to start next season. Ryan Fasano came in and let it get out of hand while Elliot Glynn and Jono Armold survived their appearances.

 

The bats were impotent for the most part. Raul Mondesi Jr. (2-4 3B), Paul Eshleman (2-4 2B) and Chris McFarland (1-3 2B BB SB) had the best games of the bunch.
