I can't put it any better than TC07 did in the 9/3 L.R., so I'll lead with saying... 'what he said'. Thank you to Mass Hass & the other link reporters -- I also often skipped right ahead to read your comments before the game stories, and they helped make following the system fun this summer. Thank you to all the readers and reader/contributors; the daily reports get valuable info from many of you, and the posts from readers always lead to interesting disussion. The L.R. provides the most detailed coverage of the Brewers' system on the web. I've definitely enjoyed both reading & chipping in this season.

Helena 11 Billings (Reds) 5

Box Score

Ryan Gibbard got his final start of the season. Unfortunately, he put up a bunch of crooked numbers in the wrong columns. No big innings, just a few here and there against Ryan. Gibbard finishes the season with a 5.27 ERA. Anyone care to guess the WI rotation for next season. Hopefully Magnifico, Wagner and Wall, then who knows.

A huge 6 run 8th put Helena ahead 11-5 and that is how it finished. Chris McFarland (2-4 HR SB), Adam Giacalone (1-4 HR BB), Emmanuel Quiles (3-4 2B) and Raul Mondesi Jr. (2-4 2 2B CS) had huge games. Jose Pena took 3 BB, his first 3 since joining Helena.

AUDIO: Pre-game interview with Helena pitching coach Elvin Nina

Nice discussion about the improvements of RHP's Mike Francisco and Joel Pierce, the "smarts" of RHP Ryan Gibbard; RHP Leonard Lorenzo is "like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you're going to get"; RHP Tyler Wagner's stuff...

Brewers race past Mustangs; Win 11-5

Helena Brewers

For awhile it appeared that the Brewers would fall in their fourth straight on Tuesday night at Kindrick Legion Field against the Billings Mustangs, but then the offense battled back scoring in the fifth and sixth frames to tie the game at five. It wasn't until the bottom of the eighth that the bats really woke up, as the Brewers plated six to notch the 11-5 victory.

Ryan Gibbard started the game for the Brewers and lasted 5.2 innings allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven Mustang hitters. Reliever Taylor Mangum then threw 3.1 innings allowing just one hit. The performance earned Mangum his first victory of the season and dropped his ERA to 5.40.

At the plate, the Brewers offense recorded a combined 11 hits and eight walks as they exploded for 11 runs. Four Brewers notched multi-hit games and two others pitched in with one hit a piece.

Adam Giacalone was one of those Brewers that only hit safely once, but he did it in a big way in the bottom half of the eighth inning. The Brewers, who had just taken a three run lead thanks to a two run RBI double by Raul Mondesi, Jr. and a RBI single by Paul Eshleman, had two men on when Giacalone hit a three run bomb to the opposite field.

The Brewers return home tomorrow night in the first game of a two game set against the Great Falls Voyagers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM (8:05 Central).
