The Office Season 9 (final season)

adamb100

I'm starting this thread ahead of time because the producers announced the upcoming season will be the show's last.

During a conference call today, The Office's executive producer, Greg Daniels, announced that the upcoming Season 9 will be the final year for the NBC series.

Daniels said that "all questions will be answered" as The Office comes to an end, including meeting the documentary crew and finding out who's been filming the Dunder Mifflin crew all this time.

Will be sad to see it go but I think it's for the best. The show has gone downhill.

I was actually just coming to post about this as well.

I think it's the right time. The last season, while I still enjoyed it, seemed to have more misses than hits as far as episodes. Most of the major loose ends in the series have basically been wrapped up already (Michael leaving, Jim and Pam's growth as a family, Andy taking over and getting together with Erin, etc). I really hope Steve Carrell makes some sort of cameo this season. Was kind of surprised we didn't get a "What's Michael up to?" episode this past year.

Don't forget that there's supposed to be a Dwight spinoff at some point (apparently called "The Farm"), so the characters might not all be going away completely.

Man, my first thought was NOoooo! Then my second thought was, it's probably the right time. I totally agree that the show has gone down hill as of late. I think Michael was the guy who made everyone shine. When he is the main character, it lets all the others be secondary main characters, and that's where they were best. Even with the show going down hill, I still loved watching it. It was like a comfort food, it just made me feel good. Even if I didn't laugh much it was still fun for me to watch.

In the past, this show has made me laugh harder than any other show I can remember. I'm not saying it was the best, but it sure made me laugh out loud and slap my knee in a room by myself. I will miss it and I know I'll be watching old episodes for years to come.

The return of Greg Daniels is the biggest news here to me. The show's downfall wasn't due to the absence of Steve Carrell, it was Greg's (and Mike Schur's) departure to Parks & Rec. This is the one thing that will get me to catch up on the last season and a half and possibly watch it all end.

I thought The Office was great tonight. It wasn't perfect, but lots of storylines developed. It was actually funnier than P&R in my opinion.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I seem to have forgotten the story line on why Andy hates Nellie so much...

Can someone give me a quick recap?

For some reason, it has been blocked from my memory.

Last night's episode was very funny, but they went back to the Michael Scott well with Andy's hate for Nellie. Very much resembles Michael's hate for Toby.

Dwight falling off the rope and bleeding was great, I was laughing out loud. Dwight Jr, Plop, Fart all that was great!

Not feeling this season at all...

Seems like they are just limping along to the finish line. Kind of sad really.

On a side not, I think that Community and Parks and Rec are also not on par with previous seasons.

I started losing interest in Parks and Rec with the election last season. I still tune in, but it just doesn't feel like must see TV anymore. It has it's moments, and usually Ron and or Tom is involved.

Community is another show I still watch, but some episodes are just flat out not that good. Does anyone know if this is the last season?

Lastly, I had high expectations for 1600 Penn, and found it completely unwatchable after 3 episodes. It just isn't funny, so I stopped watching.

Yes, this is the final season of community, and they also fired both Executive Producers of the show, so it basically lacks the direction it once had.

Actually, I don't think anything is official yet. They haven't announced whether it would be picked up or not. It has done decent numbers (for the time slot/NBC) since returning. It's kind of hard when they are competing against Idol and Big Bang Theory, 2 of the biggest shows on tv. The Execs know that Community has a strong (albeit small) cult following so it has that going for it. Plus, their other shows haven't exactly lit up the ratings either. Add to that the fact that 30 Rock/Office will be gone after this season, I think there is still a decent chance it is brought back. And they are pretty close to that magic 100 mark for syndication.

And the losing the exec producers really isn't the reason season 4 hasn't been the same. It's losing creator/showrunner Dan Harmon which has affected the show the most.

Seconding that I haven't heard anything about this being the final season of Community. The first 3 episodes haven't been as good as years past but it's the first 3 episodes of the season. Parks and Rec has been ok and The Office has been sometimes good and sometimes terrible. From the commercials I thought 1600 Penn would be terrible but I actually like it. It's not great but it's better than most other comedies.

I'm in the camp that doesn't care for 1600 Penn at all...watched the first two episodes and both the wife and I decided it wasn't worth watching any further.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Community again in the fall. I think it's picked up again the last couple episodes, personally.

As far as the Office, I actually think this season has been pretty good overall. A shame to see it end, but it's definitely time. Anyone know if the Dwight spinoff is still happening?

Not happening anymore. And I think The Office has generally been terrible since Michael's last season. A lot of people said it started to go downhill after Jim & Pam's wedding and for sure after Michael left. There have been a few decent episodes but for the most part, it hasn't been good at all.
