Can someone tell me where they play the games in Az or the facility.? Thanks

The Brewers players play at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium (Home games) located at 5999 East Van Buren. Which is just west of Sky harbor and it is right next to the Zoo.

A map of all the stadiums.

I prefer the Salt River Fields or the Peoria Sports Complex over the Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

I used to work at Phoenix Muni in the AFL. It's a nice place for a game during the day. Night games are rough. I'll try to get to a game for old times sake since the Brewers aren't in Peoria or Surprise for once

I looked at this years schedule and it appears that most games are day games with the exception of games at Scottsdale stadium. I may be wrong but I seem to remember more night games in years past.

Link Report Bonus:

Looking purely at the numbers, it was hard to fault the Brewers for releasing 2009 18th round LHP Caleb Thielbar after the 2010 season.

Thielbar, the Minnesota native and South Dakota State product, persevered via the indy ball route in St. Paul and was subsequently noticed by his home state Twins. Now, in less than one season in their system, Thielbar is just one step from the big leagues.

Awesome for Thielbar, his path thus far is remarkbaly similar to another released Brewer farmhand southpaw.

***

Latest: Thielbar will represent the Twins in the Arizona Fall League.

Not sure where this goes, but I have a friend who saw the Brewers' instructional game and this was his sentiment.

Mitch Haniger hit a bomb the other day in Fall Instructs against the Cubs (off of Duane Underwood) and Damien Magnifico was supposedly wowing everyone there with his terrific fastball.

Those are the only two names that I saw for the Brewers, but the pitching as a whole threw a 4 hit shutout (although none of Jorge Soler, Albert Almora and Dan Vogelbach played in the game).

The AFL started up today. I am writing up a quick report on the 1st game now.

The Brewers play on the Phoenix Desert Dogs team.

Phoenix 4 Scottsdale 3 F/9

Box

Hunter Morris (0-3 BB) hit cleanup and played 1B. Khris Davis (0-2 2 BB) hit 7th and played LF. Josh Prince entered at 3rd in the mid-innings and went hitless and made an error.

Kyle Heckathorn earned the win with 2 fantastic innings. Kyle allowed a H and had 2 K. Johnny Hellweg notched the save with a scorless 9th giving up just a H.

AZBrewCrew, that's what makes it crazier that I coach girls golf in the Valley. Monday was the first time all year where I felt comfortable. Spending 3-4 hours after school/work each day in August when it was 115...man that was rough! I don't know what I'm thinking every year when I sign that contract to coach.

I'd like to make it to a few games as well. I'm curious if the same grounds crew guys are still working at Phoenix Muni from when I was working the AFL.

Scottsdale 6 Phoenix 5 F/9

Box Score

Leading 5-4 heading into the final half frame, Scottsdale managed to pull off the comeback against the Desert Dogs today.

Josh Prince got the start in LF and went 1-5 with 2 SB and 3 K. Prince could probably steal bases efficiently at the MLB level now. Hunter Morris hit 4th and went 1-4 with a BB. Big Brock Kjeldgaard hit 6th and played RF. He finished 2-3 with a HR and a BB to earn Desert Dog PotG honors.

Another 7 pitchers appeared for Phoenix. Santo Manzanillo was the 3rd one out. He managed only 2 outs while giving up a H R and BB.

John Sickels posted his two-part '12 AFL Players to Watch piece on Tuesday.

- Part One

- Part Two

The Brewers included are Hunter Morris (oddly, with no mention of winning the SL MVP) & Johnny Hellweg. Hellweg didn't get a feature writeup, but here's what he had to say on Morris:

Hunter Morris, 1B, Brewers: Turning 24 this past weekend, Morris put up a fine line for Double-A Huntsville (.303/.357/.563 with 40 doubles, 28 homers), finishing strong by hitting 21 homers in the second half. If he stays hot in the AFL, expect to hear more about him as a potential power source for the Brewers.

Other NL Central prospects included

  • CHC: SS Javier Baez, OF Matt Szczur
  • CIN: IF/OF Billy Hamilton, SS Didi Gregorious
  • PIT: RHP Victor Black
  • STL: 2B Kolten Wong, RHP Seth Blair

For what it's worth and I forget where I read it, probably BA, but Hamilton is strictly an OF now and is being groomed to be a CF. Makes sense considering the SS position is pretty loaded in the Reds' organization.

Peoria 6 Phoenix 0

Box Score

It appears Hunter Morris will be a fixture in the 4-hole for the Desert Dogs. He went 2-4 Thursday producing the only multiple hit effort for his team. Khris Davis (0-3) hit 7th and played LF.

That's it for the Brewers today. I am little surprised Jimmy Nelson or Nick Bucci have not started a game yet.
