Cards trade Zack Cox for Edward Mujica

So it in ESPN's live trade blog. Cox stock has really fallen. He was the 62nd ranked prospect in 2011 and 88 at the start of this year. Now he gets traded for a reliever who is struggling this year

At least Cox is gone from the Cardinals. I really wanted the Brewers to draft him at the #14 spot in 2010. I'm not sure why the Cardinals like to trade top prospects for relief pitchers but at least it is them doing it now and not the Brewers. Imagine the out rage there would be on this forum if Melvin would trade someone like Cox for a relief pitcher.

Because they know some nobody, journeyman or washed-out player will sign with them for nothing and suddenly become an All Star. When that repeatedly happens year-in and year-out, there is less need to value your prospects.
