3B Chris Johnson to ARZ, OFs Bobby Borchering & Mark Krauss to HOU

MLBTR post

The Diamondbacks have acquired third baseman Chris Johnson from the Astros for minor league outfielders Marc Krauss and Bobby Borchering, the teams announced. Borchering, 21, was Arizona's first round pick in the 2009 draft while Krauss, 24, was taken in the second round of the same draft.

Johnson, 27, has a slash line of .279/.329/.428 with eight homers in 368 plate appearances this season. The right-handed hitter, who also played a handful of games at first base for Houston this year, won't be arbitration eligible until after the 2013 season unless he qualifies for super two status this coming offseason.

The Diamondbacks dealt from an area from strength in this trade as they are rather deep in the outfield. While Krauss and Borchering were standouts at the Double-A level, they also have prospects Adam Eaton and A.J. Pollock in Triple-A Reno.

GM Jeff Luhnow continues to sell off Major League pieces as a part of the club's rebuilding effort. In the last ten days, the Astros have traded Wandy Rodriguez to the Pirates, Brett Myers to the White Sox, and J.A. Happ to the Blue Jays.

It looks like both Krauss & Borchering can really swing the bat. While I admit I know little to nothing about all three players involved, at first glance this looks like another pretty good move by Jeff Luhnow. I know TheCrew07 was vocal about his dread of that hiring right after it happened, as Luhnow was STL's VP in charge of Amateur Scouting & Player Development, & had done well in that role.

BA rated Borchering as the best power hitter in the D'Backs organization and Krauss seems to at least have potential as a 4th outfielder who could probably start for a couple of years while the Astros rebuild.

Kind of baffling for the D'Backs since they traded these two guys for basically a younger Ryan Roberts who they just DFA'd.

And one of their top prospects is a third baseman. You would think Davidson would see some MLB action in 2013

I'm imagining the folks who put together the Brewers Gameday programs just throwing up their hands at the thought of attempting to have a 'Stros roster that is even slightly accurate in the program this week. Seriously, they should just photocopy an insert page.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

They've missed Mark Reynolds since he left so they got a player similar to him. Except without the HR power.
