One of the best decisions I've ever made...was joining Brewerfan.net

The stache

Though I haven't been a member here for long, I just wanted to say what an absolute pleasure it has been discussing Brewers baseball with you all. This forum is everything I hoped it would be and more. I have found the posters here to be intelligent and mature, and the collective level of baseball knowledge is pretty much awe inspiring.

Without getting into a lot of boring details, I've been on long term disability for the last few years because of my back. So getting to the ballpark is not really an option right now (those chairs are quite uncomfortable!). And since I have lived in Texas since 1989 (after being born and raised in Milwaukee and Waukesha, respectively), I find myself homesick. I enjoy the Rangers, but the Brewers have been my team since I was seven years old, and that will never change. Before coming here, I could get Brewer news, of course, but I couldn't really find anyplace with other passionate fans like myself to discuss that news with. And that was rough, as baseball is really my greatest passion. I tried several places, but as I'm sure many of you, too, have experienced, the discussions far too often devolved into childish arguments.

So a big "thank you" to all the members of Brewerfan.net. I am looking forward to many years of stimulating discussions with you all. I tip my hat to you all!

That was really nice, Bill.

I love BF.net and the political forum because they were one of my links to my hometown while we were living away from the area (1998-2011). Even now that we're back, its a pleasure to stop at the site and get some water cooler info about the team, and the world.

When something like the Greinke trade goes down, it's great, as prior to today, I wouldn't know Jean Segura from Larry Gura, so it keeps me in the know, with people posting scouting reports, stats & forecasts.

Good stuff.

Thanks, JimH5 :) I was a political science major/pre law in college, only switching career paths to that of a stock broker after leaving the university. I could get addicted to political talk all over again, so I think I'm better off sticking to baseball! :laughing

I like the mix of conversations on here. It's nice to just pop in and chat while the game is going on, look at some of the minor league discussions going on afterwords (which I really love as a baseball card collector that does a lot of prospecting)...then I can satiate my stat-nerd needs by getting into a discussion about oWAR, or babip, or win probability added, etc.

I am a happy camper!

Generally you will find out about trades and minor league callups here way ahead of the major news outlets. Usually before the Journal Sentinel.

Please don't start a BABIP debate or do and see what happens. We haven't had one of those debates in a while.

Fan is short for fanatic.

This really is a great board. If you've ever read other baseball boards there is a much higher proportion of "junk" posts, rants, etc.

Us die-hard ex-pats/out of staters really wouldn't get a chance to discuss Brewers baseball on a regular basis if it weren't for this forum.

The mods here do a great job. Well, although I could have enjoyed letting that one Cards fan hang out for another day or so ;)

Glad you've enjoyed BF.net so much thus far, Bill. I know it's been enjoyable to read many of your posts... the enthusiasm comes jumping off the cpu monitor :)

Made me snort. Nice.

Oh man. I joined in 03 and was part of the "Great strikeout debate" of 04. Good times.

I forgot how many there were but the answer isn't one. Nobody took my "sometimes" answer as anything in any of them. But then again, I didn't "play" baseball in "college", or have a blog that touted the acquisition of Chad Moeller as "key", so I can see why I lacked credibility.

We should have a "Not About Us" page where we profile some of our choice banned users with favorite quotes.

There were so many epic quotes from that 2003-2007 time frame.

You won't have to look very far in WOAH SOLVDD to find this quote. I still think this would be epic tribute too all of those posters who were banned over the years, actually it's been really quiet on that front around here for a couple of years. It's too bad, some of those epically hatefully posts had comedic value, I wonder how many of those people still bitterly read the board?

If you go to the comment section on JSOnline and mention Brewerfan, you can find all sorts of former posters :)

If you like light hitting middle infielders, this message board clearly isn't for you.

The only real clown we've had here that I remember in the last year was GhostofQuantrill, the classiest fan of the classiest team in the world. Some of my favorite things about him:

- Quantrill was a confederate war hero. When discussing Cardinals players having "it", he made sure to mention that usually white guys have "it". Mike Cameron is a skeezball, but Chris Carpenter is a class act.

I made a blatantly facetious rant towards him about how the Brewers, unlike the Cardinals, had sacrificed winning over the past 30 years to put classy players on the field, talking about how I want my children to understand that winning is not as important as being classy, yada yada yada. He fell hook line and sinker.

Hendrickson's dad was my all time favorite.

Also enjoyed the guy who was, how should I put this, very proud of being Jewish. He lasted about three days before getting the boot. He threatened to ruin the Brewerfan tailgate.

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that just can abide by the forum rules. That number has dwindled over the years. I suppose word gets around other boards that this place is actually moderated.

Ohh there were plenty more than BH's dad... bjames had that one thread where he literally posted double digit times in one day (I want to say it was 21 posts before I jumped in) and was every 3rd post in the thread.

I still think Brian's suggestion of Troll Amnesty Day has merit, it could be a fun way to get through the dog days of August.
