Running 4 Childhood Cancer

Dnye23

I've only been running for less than 2 years. It started because I just wanted to get myself in shape. I've always had an active lifestyle (except for a couple years ago where I gained 25 pounds after my wedding up until our son was born). Now, I feel like I'm the healthiest I've ever been. I want my running to mean something more, like being an inspirational runner. I've never had cancer or any other kind of infecting disease, nor have I had a serious injury to come back from *knocks on wood*. I'm not the greatest at being motivational speaker, nor do I want to be. It seems like every inspirational runner has some kind of backstory or obsticle they've overcomed. I want to be that guy without a story to tell.

I've been aware of our local charity called MACC Fund ever since I was little. My grandmother is good friends with the founder and president. I am doing my 3rd half-marathon this Spetember, which proceeds benefit the MACC Fund. They also have setup a personal fundraising page for all participants, which triggered my ideas for years to come.

Please check out this link about my fundraising idea. I would appreciate all opinions, likes/dislikes, and suggestions. Also, please pass this along to anyone that might be interested in donating.

I'm not looking to start my own charity or anything like that. I just want to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer through charities like that MACC Fund, another one I'm apart of is the RACC Fund. Everytime I'm out training, my mind is just racing with all the goals I want to set out for myself. Everything is centered around this cause. I am 100% serious about doing this. I'm already having my the front of my race shirts made up, plus a tattoo when I have the money. I am having a little trouble trying to reach out to anyone interested in my idea. Any help would be appreciated. I'll also keep everyone up to date with my progress on here.

I think it's a neat concept, and I hope you have success with it. It may be easier to pick a lucky kid to represent for each race. Put their name and maybe the story on back. Print them a t-shirt too, and maybe give them your race number afterwards, or something like that. I would think you could call the local children's hospital, and ask if they have any kids who may be interested in you "running for them". I'd bet you would find some takers, most likely in the teen age group.
