in-season, single day, major roster turnovers

djoctagone

part of me thinks that today could be a day of shocking roster moves. it got me thinking about other in-season days where the brewers removed at least two major players from their 25-man roster (major defined by high salary and/or being a starting player).

the most recent shake-up that comes to mind is 12 august 2009, when the brewers designated bill hall for assignment and optioned j.j. hardy to nashville, recalling alcides escobar and purchasing the contract of jason bourgeois from nashville.

it was significant in that hardy had never been optioned to the minor leagues before, and that bill hall was still under contract for $8.4 million the following year (plus the hefty amount still owed him in 2009).

what other major roster turnover days are in brewers' history?

that day they also fired billy castro i believe.

plus i don't think today will be the day everything shakes up. there obviously will be 2 roster moves. there could be a trade but if there is i think it will wolf and/or kottaras and not anything huge.

At the deadline in 2000, they traded Bob Wickman, Jason Bere & Steve Woodard to Cleveland for Richie Sexson, Kane Davis, Marco Scutaro & Paul Rigdon.

I didn't know Scutaro was part of that deal. I looked up his minor league numbers, and they looked pretty good. what did he do, or not do, to be waived?

This was probably the only good trade that Dean Taylor made during in his time in Milwaukee. Have to give him and Bando credit for basically turning Graeme Lloyd into Sexson.
