Knobler reports Brewers are ready to sell, as early as today

When the trip began last week, general manager Doug Melvin told his staff, "If we lose five out of six, we're selling."

They lost six of six.

So if we had only lost 4 of 6 we weren't?!?!?!?!?!?! That is a scary thought....

ain't it though? craaazzzzzy

we'll likely see Kottaras dealt today, I'm thinking to the Nationals for a relief pitcher, especially with Lucroy back tomorrow

the most interesting part of that article was the inclusion of Hart as a possible trade chip

It's about time.

As far as I'm concerned, put everybody who will be a FA next year on the block, along with Kottaras. K-Rod for salary relief, Wolf for salary relief (even if it takes paying half of Wolf's salary and 75% of K-Rod's), Kottaras for a mediocre prospect, Greinke for a good haul, Izturis for a nothing.

Trade Aramis if a good deal comes along. I'd rather they keep Hart and Weeks but if they are really impressed with a package Melvin should obviously act.

In short, sell it all.

I was thinking the same thing. As far as I was concerned 3-3 wasn't even good enough.

I know, i read that and thought, seriously?! even the optimist in me was questioning that logic! AND I LOVE TO FIND OPTIMISM IN ANYTHING I CAN!!!!

Id say that other then Ryan, Yo and Lucroy (maybe Thornberg and Fiers) anyone can go.

...want to add...I have a good grasp of the obvious.

I'd hang on to Maldonado, Gomez, Aoki, Axe, and probably Hart unless someone really wants him.

I'll admit that completely razing the roster and restarting feels like the best way to purge the suck out of the team but if you gut to that level you're basically the Houston Astros with Ryan Braun.

I believe that this was the clown who had the lead article on cbssports.com last night, something to the effect that 'Greinke deserves better'. Yes, a 5 year contract offer in excess of 100 million- life is so unfair. As for this report- well, duh.

There is selling and then there is selling. I don't see Melvin selling players who have multiple years left on their contracts now. Melvin said many times over the years he thinks the best trades are made in the off season for those guys. Basically he thinks, and I agree, there are more potential parterres in the off season than at the deadline. If someone wows him I'm sure that changes but I don't think he's actively seeking to trade those guys now. I think it more likely they trade guys who are in their final season. I think it more likely to trade Morgan than Kottaras for example.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Despite this report, I don't think the Brewers go nuts and sell off everyone. Still think Greinke will be the only major piece moved. I'm hoping Ramirez can be dealt as well, but I'm not expecting it.

The only players I definitely want to keep are Braun, Gallardo and Lucroy. There are a few other pieces that I'd like to keep around for sentimental purposes, but that's why fans aren't GMs. Though Hart and Ax are two of my favorite Brewers, they can be moved for the right price. Do us proud, Doug.

I agree with this. Braun, Gallardo, and Lucroy should be the only untouchables at this point. Everyone else can be had for the right offer. I do have guys I'd hate to see go, but it's a business. If good offers are out there, Doug has to take them.

I think now would be a terrible time to move Weeks or Axford, because I believe both will bounce back (not to say they'll never crater again). I would keep Braun and Yo, of course, because they're our cornerstones. I would also keep Lucroy, Aoki, Fiers, Estrada, and Maldonado because they're all cheap and do important jobs well, and that's exactly the kind of player a rebuilding team needs. I also think some of our youngish guys who are still transitioning to the majors -- Thornburg, Gamel (DL, so not an issue now), Green -- are almost certainly worth more right now, for the Brewers, as bets to develop and contribute than as trade chips.

That's twelve guys who probably should be on the MLB roster next year. In addition, having Marcum back on a reasonable extension or a one-year arby salary wouldn't be a bad thing; and I could see keeping Gomez around if he doesn't break the bank in arby, because he's still young and he's so good at the things he isn't terrible at. Everybody else should go. I love Greinke, but he's obviously history. Hart and Ramirez are good players who deserve their salaries, but paying market value for second-tier stars on the wrong side of 30 makes little sense for a rebuilding mid-market team.

You play for 2014 and beyond. Understand 2012 and 2013 are development years. With that in mind, you deal anyone who won't be with the team beyond 2013.

Keep Weeks and Axford. They are better players, and get re-establish their value by season's end, or even into next year.

Trade Loe, Parra, K-Rod, Wolf, Veras, Gomez, Kottaras, Morgan - get whatever you can - even salary relief.

Trade Greinke, Hart and A-Ram for the best prospects you can get. I don't think A-Ram gets that much, even if we send along $6 million (we are balance his large 2014 salary).

Cut Izturis.

Let Bianchi (SS), Taylor Green (3B), Schafer (CF) finish out the season.

The team will be bad the rest of the year, but hopefully, you'll find out if a couple of guys have a future in the big leagues. 2013 will be bad too, but we can let the younger players develop (Peralta, Thornburg, Fiers, Jungmann, Nelson, Morris, Scooter, Rogers), plus any guys we get in trades. They join the team in 2013-14 (or even later).

I just don't think a 'tweak' helps this team. You need to to blow it up.
