Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Reds’ Billy Hamilton’s Speed Hits A “Slump”

The Stars are mentioned in a negative manner as Cooper points out the poor job Huntsville has done with the running game all season but then neglects to mention that Burgos picked off Hamilton last night which contributed to his streak.

Hunter Morris - 2 fer 2 with 2 home runs.

Stud.

Hunter Morris kills RHP (.953 OPS) but he has been decent against LHP as well (.803 OPS). He has more homers after the All-Star break then he did before in half the number of games.

Chad Stang is a young 23 in ball player terms as he has about 800 pro AB's with almost half coming this season. He is also having a very nice season in WI with a large pile of XBH and steals (48).

Max Walla is struggling against LHP (.466 OPS, 9 hits all year). This is his next major hurdle in his progression. He has really improved his eye, even against LHP, while also cutting down on his K's. If he is able to hold is own against southpaws, he can start working on driving the ball with his tremendous natural power. I personally have seen him hit two impressive home runs at Miller Park against live pitching. The thing I remember most from that home run earlier this season was how strong Walla's legs look. He has a lower half chiseled out of granite. Walla (21) is looking at being in AA for 2014, making it his age 23 season. Hunter Morris is 23 in AA this year.

I am heavily in favor of Yaddy Rivera repeating at WI next season. Now 20, he is basically having an identical season statistically as he did last year at Helena and WI. I love Yaddy's attitude and the power is enticing but he now has 1000 AB's of poor hitting under his belt.

Still no Tyrone Taylor.

With the Butcher Brothers behind the dish in Maryvale, I have decided that I will basically ignore pitcher stats at that level. Get K's and GB's and I will be thrilled but runs and walks will all be skewed because of the shoddy receiving from Coulter and Houle.

Nic Bucci is tonight's early victim.

We are talking about two 18 year olds, so obviously they can and will improve as they move up.

Sean Halton has 2 triples tonight. Morris isn't the only 1st baseman who's been on a tear.

There is a pleasing symmetry to his following a two-homer game with a two-double game and then a two-triple game. He's slacking on the singles, though--hasn't had one since Saturday.

Final: Wisconsin 5, Kane County 2

Wisconsin stops five game losing streak

Timber Rattlers score five runs in second inning and beat Kane County 5-2

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL - Matt Miller tossed eight solid innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored all the runs Miller would need in the second inning in a 5-2 victory over the Kane County Cougars Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The win ended Wisconsin's five game losing streak.

Kane County (50-51 overall, 16-15 second half) scored first with a little small ball. Justin Trapp singled, stole second, and moved to third on a ground out to the right side by Jack Lopez. Danny Mateo singled to drive in Trapp for a 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers (58-42, 14-17) stormed back with five runs in the top of the second inning. Nick Ramirez doubled with one out. Mike Garza drove in Ramirez with a single to tie the game. Wisconsin loaded the bases when Lance Roenicke was hit by a pitch and Rafael Neda singled. Yadiel Rivera put the Rattlers in front with a run scoring fielder's choice.

Chadwin Stang was next and he cracked a 2-run triple to right-center to put the Rattlers up 4-1. Max Walla followed with an RBI single to left and the Rattlers lead moved to 5-1.

Miller took that four run lead and ran with it. He worked around a few base runners and kept the Cougars from scoring again until the seventh inning. Kenny Swab singled to start the inning, but needed a two-out triple from Trapp to score and cut Wisconsin's lead to 5-2.

The Cougars would get no closer. Miller went back out for the eighth inning and retired Kane County in order. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked one, and struck out four to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Tyler Cravy worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning to toss a scoreless frame to close out the Cougars and pick up his second save of the season.

Game two of the series is Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Chad Pierce (3-3, 3.64) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County sends Kyle Zimmer to the mound. Zimmer was drafted in the first round - and fifth overall - of the 2012 draft by the Kansas City Royals. He will be making his Midwest League debut on Thursday night. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

WP: Matt Miller (8-7)

LP: Angel Baez (5-3)

SAVE: Tyler Cravy (2)

Wisconsin Box Score

The Rattlers snapped their losing streak thanks to a nice pitching performance from Matt Miller. I'm not sure what to make of Miller. Sometimes he looks really good and other times, not so much. Tonight was a good night for him though as he went 8 innings, and gave up just two runs on six hits.

Offensively, Wisconsin got a 2-4 night from Max Walla, who also walked once and stole a base. Rafael Neda also was 2-4. Chad Stang had a triple and two RBI. Nick Ramirez doubled, but also struck out three more times. Greg Hopkins continued to struggle since his return. He was 0-4 tonight and is now just 1 for his last 22. Michael Garza was 1-3 with a walk but was caught stealing for the 4th time in 5 attempts.

If for whatever reason Hart would be traded does anyone think that they might call up Morris and have him skip AAA? Just curious who the next guy up would be (Hopefully not Ishikawa)

Are you trying to make JohnBriggs12's head explode?

If we were contending, I would say bring up Morris without a doubt. Since it is a lost season, I would bring up Sean Halton if not just to see what we have.

Helena 9 Odgen (Dodgers) 6

Box Score

A win tonight for Helena thanks in most part to 7 unearned runs. Ruben Ozuna (3-4 3B 2 SB) and Adam Giacalone (2-4 HR) were the big stars on the evening. Michael Turay also went 2-4 and is up to .313 on the year to go with some power.

On the mound, former college closer Tyler Wagner started and he struggled a bit. The 7:2 GO:FO and 4:1 K:BB in 4 innings give me great hope for this mid-90's fireballer. I have high hopes for his transition to the rotation in pro ball. Brent Suter finished the game with 5 spectacular innings. 5 IP 1 H 1 R 0 ER 2 BB 3 K 1 WP 9:1 GO:FO for the former Harvard star.

Vargas Solid As Sounds Clip Redbirds, 7-1

Halton Ties Nashville Record With Two Triples To Pace Offense

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Veteran right-hander Claudio Vargas tossed a quality start and the Nashville offense posted its highest run total in three weeks during the Sounds' 7-1 victory over the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds on Wednesday evening at Greer Stadium.

Vargas (4-1) continued to have the Redbirds' number as the veteran authored his third quality start victory in three starts against Memphis this season. The right-hander struck out a season-high seven batters while holding the 'Birds to one run on four hits in his seven frames of work.

In his three starts versus Memphis, Vargas has posted a 1.42 ERA (3er/19.0ip); against the rest of the PCL, he carries a 5.52 mark in 10 outings (27er/44.0ip).

The seven-run output by the Sounds marked the first time in 17 games that Nashville recorded more than five runs in a game.

First baseman Sean Halton, who legged out a pair of triples, was one of four Nashville players to post two hits on the night. The slugger became the 12th player in the Sounds' 35-year history to record two three-baggers in one game and the first since Lorenzo Cain accomplished the feat in the same inning on July 26, 2010 at Albuquerque.

Nashville's five through eight hitters combined to go 8-for-14 in the game; the top four batters in the order went just 4-for-18.

The Sounds got off to a quick start against Memphis starter Shelby Miller, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Second baseman Eric Farris led off the Nashville first by hammering a 2-0 Shelby Miller offering over the left field wall for a leadoff home run and a 1-0 lead. It was the infielder's fourth big fly of the year and extended Farris' hitting streak to eight games, the longest active stretch on the club. Corey Patterson followed Farris with a single, stole second, and scored on Taylor Green's one-out RBI double down the right field line.

Shortstop Edwin Maysonet doubled the Nashville advantage to 4-0 in the second when he slugged his second home run of the year, a two-run shot to left off Miller. Jordan Brown, who had opened the frame with a single, also scored on the blast.

Nashville scored again in the third against Miller when Halton smoked a long line drive to center that struck the top portion of the 24' high batter's eye, resulting in a stand-up, two-out triple, and scored on Caleb Gindl's ensuing single to right.

Miller (5-9) suffered his third loss in three starts against the Sounds this season. The St. Louis Cardinals' top prospect gave up five runs on seven hits over four innings of action. The right-hander is 0-3 with a 12.19 ERA (14er/10.1ip) against Nashville in 2012.

Memphis got on the board in the fifth when catcher Bryan Anderson smashed a one-out solo homer to right-center off Sounds starter Claudio Vargas, his third dinger of the year.

The Sounds increased the lead to 6-1 in the home half of the fifth against Memphis reliever Nick Greenwood when Brown plated catcher Jonathan Lucroy with a two-out RBI single to center.

Nashville made it 7-1 in the seventh against John Gaub. Halton legged out his second triple of the night after his fly ball to left caromed off the top of the wall and away from both pursuing Redbirds outfielders. Gindl followed with a sharp RBI single through the right side of a drawn-in infield.

Left-hander Juan Perez worked the final two innings in scoreless fashion behind Vargas for the Sounds.

In his second rehab contest with Nashville, Lucroy went 0-for-3 and played seven innings. He lined out sharply to center in the first, struck out in the third, was plunked in the back, stole second, and later scored in the fifth, and grounded into a fielder's choice in the sixth.

The teams continue their series with another 7:05 p.m. matchup on Thursday evening. Right-hander Wily Peralta (5-9, 2.04) will start for the Sounds to face Memphis southpaw Nick Additon (3-7, 4.66). The Famous San Diego Chicken will make his first appearance at Greer Stadium since 2010 when he entertains fans during the game with his antics.

Nashville Box Score

So much for Shelby Miller's mechanical adjustment, I'm always wary of stories like that... show me an extended streak of solid pitching before declaring a pitcher "fixed". Miller continues to give up HRs at an alarming rate, and it's not like Farris and Maysonet are power players by any stretch. Great win for the Sounds, it's always nice to beat up on divisional rivals with our legitimate prospects coming up clutch, hopefully Peralta keeps it going tomorrow.
