Teams interested in Parra and Loe

Brewers have had some inquiries about Manny Parra, but they may keep him. May try him as a starter again.

Welcome, class, to Driving Up Trade Offers 101. Professor Melvin will be your instructor...

I seriously hope there's not a GM in the game dumb enough to fall for something like that on a guy like Parra.

That might work with a player who's had more than marginal success for half a season, but not a fringe guy like Parra who is 29, and has sucked since he was a rookie.

No. My point was Melvin could be telling teams he doesn't like the offers, and bluff that the Brewers are still high enough on Parra's upside that they're even willing to consider him as a SP again. Something like, 'Nah, that's way cheaper than what we want. We like Manny's stuff a lot, we really think he could even thrive as a SP with some mechanical changes... blah blah blah... we're not looking to give him away on the cheap.'

At least I sure hope he's bluffing on that... and that.

Alright, I see what you're saying then. That makes more sense. I would have to think he's bluffing. We can only hope.

I'm kind of surprised we didn't throw K-Rod out there the last few games to try to get a few good outings out of him. That's really the only way we'll be able to get rid of him. Loe has looked good, which could make him a trade chip again. Parra obviously still seems to be, and maybe Loe is too.

I hope so too, just on principle... but the alternative is that Melvin is actually considering trying Parra as a SP again... which would be far worse.

I guess my real point is it's a waste of time by Melvin to be throwing comments around like that on guys like Parra. You're not going to drive the asking price up on him by saying "Well, we'll just keep him and use him as a starter". And if Melvin actually thinks that.....he's not as smart as people give him credit for.

I dont think the starter part is what he hopes may drive the price up. My guess is the offers are pretty terrible so Melvin is trying to say he doesnt have to trade Parra and the team actually likes him, so make us an offer that would get us to part with him. Essentially - "We like him enough to not just give him away for nothing."

Exactly what I meant, & why I said "we're not looking to give him away on the cheap" in my hypothetical DM comment in my last post
