Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Audio from Nashville — “Dropping Sidearm with Tim Dillard”

Jeff Hem's note - Tonight’s interview is with the always-popular, always-jovial, always-amenable Tim Dillard. The Sounds reliever recently came down from Milwaukee, and he discusses his season so far, the Brewers’ season so far, how the weather and the baseball (MLB or MiLB) affect his effectiveness as a submarine-style pitcher, and his uncanny ability to impersonate almost anyone (including Sounds pitching coach Fred Dabney.)

You can go here – May 22 – Pitching Coach Fred Dabney – to compare Dillard’s Dabney to the real thing.

My note -- love the way Dillard discussed Martin Maldonado, high praise.

Final: DSL Braves 6, DSL Brewers 5

DSL Brewers Box Score

The good news here was that Gian Rizzo maintained his rotation slot after the break and this was a well pitched game until the 5th. The bad news is that Eliezer Montano gave up 6 runs attempting to pitch the final 4 innings, including a 4 run ninth. Back to Rizzo he pitched 3 innings this time out, hopefully his pitch count keeps going up. He wasn't as effective as usual allowing 5 hits in his 3 innings, but he didn't allow any runs or walks and did strike out 2. Joan De La Cruz made his second appearance of the season in relief of Rizzo, this time 2 scoreless with 3 strike outs and a walk. Montano took over from there and you and already know the rest... I don't think he was gassed, he's gone 5 innings a couple of times so far this season, the 9th just got away from him.

The Brewer bats even added 2 insurance runs in the top of the 9th but it was for naught as 3B Joel Dicent led the way going 2-4 with a double and a walk. Elvis Rubio had a nice game going 2-3 with 2 walks and SS Raphachel Colatosti had the final multi-hit game going 2-3 to up his season BA to .225. Yunior De La Cruz added the 2 run double in the 9th and finally Yunior Santana who finished the game with a .191 BA smacked a HR and walked in his 5 plate appearances. Colatosti(10) and Juan Ortiz(10) both stole a base while Alejandro Mendoza was caught stealing for the 5th time. The defense was fairly atrocious with 5 total errors, I'll just recopy that section of the box below.

FIELDING

E: Mendoza, A (6, throw), Montano (2, pickoff), Ortiz, Ju (3, fielding), Dicent, Js (3, missed catch), De La Cruz, Y (7, catcher interference).

'Tees edge Cardinals in series opener

07/19/2012 10:19 PM ET

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees won their fourth straight game as they edged the Palm Beach Cardinals, 4-3 in the series opener between the two teams on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Manatees starting pitcher Brooks Hall (4-3, 3.97) gave Brevard a quality outing as he allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work. He walked three and struck out a season-high six hitters. In his last five starts, Hall is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA.

The 'Tees (16-11 second half, 45-50 overall) jumped on the board first to give Hall run support in the third inning. With one out in the frame, John Dishon tripled to right field and would score one batter later on a RBI single off the bat of Nick Shaw.

Brevard County plated three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Cody Hawn and Brock Kjeldgaard drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Joey Paciorek then stepped in and ripped the second triple for the Manatees in as many innings, to clear the bases and give the 'Tees a 3-0 lead.

Paciorek would come home one batter later as Shea Vucinich singled to left to make it a 4-0 game in favor of the Manatees.

Hall's only mistake came in the top of the fifth as he walked Mike O'Neill with two outs and then allowed a two-run shot to Starlin Rodriguez as the Cardinals (13-15, 44-51) cut Brevard's lead to 4-2.

Eric Arnett relieved Hall in the seventh and allowed Palm Beach to make it a 4-3 game on a two-out RBI single from Mike O'Neill. Arnett retired the Cards in order in the eighth and then handed the ball to Greg Holle for the ninth.

Holle allowed back-to-back singles to Cody Stanley and Nicholas Longmire lead-off the ninth, but then got Tyler Rahmatulla to strike out swinging. Then a passed ball by Brent Dean with Ronny Gil at the plate moved the tying run 90 feet from home as the Cardinals had runners on second and third with one out.

Gil would fly out to left as it was too shallow for Stanley to try and tag from third. Holle would then battle O'Neill, who entered the game as the current Florida State League leader in hitting and was already 2-for-3 on the night. Holle got ahead of O'Neill 0-2 and forced him to ground out to third to end the game.

The win was Brevard County's fifth in its last six games and the 'Tees improved to 21-18 in one-run games. The Manatees have also entered a three-way tie for second place in the North Division as they are just one game behind first-place Tampa.

Brevard County and Palm Beach continue their four-game set on Friday at 6:35 p.m. Brandon Williamson (2-6, 7.01) will toe the rubber for the 'Tees as he is coming off of his first win in almost two months. The Cardinals will send southpaw Kyle Hald to the hill. He will be making his first start in the FSL after being promoted from Class A, where he was 4-5 with a 3.10 ERA.

Box Score

Brooks Hall is coming around a little. 6 IP 4 H 2 ER 2 R 3 BB 6 K 1 HR 7:4 GO:FO. He basically had one mistake, the homer. Eric Arnett and Greg Holle finished the final 3 innings in fine fashion.

BC did just enough with the bats. John Dishon went 2-3 with a 3B. With Parker Berberet's injury, Brent Dean saw more action behind the plate. Nick Shaw had a H and a BB and Joey Paciorek had the huge 3B.

Game Log

No idea how deep it actually was, but the Cards did not attempt to run on Brock Kjeldgaard's arm with 2-out and down a run in the 9th. Respect.

Palm Beach Top of the 9th

Pitching Change: Greg Holle replaces Eric Arnett.

Cody Stanley singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen.

Nicholas Longmire singles on a ground ball to pitcher Greg Holle. Cody Stanley to 2nd.

Tyler Rahmatulla strikes out swinging.

With Ronny Gil batting, passed ball by Brent Dean, Cody Stanley to 3rd. Nicholas Longmire to 2nd.

Ronny Gil flies out to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard.

Struggling 40-man roster Brevard SS Hector Gomez' exit sure was early. Did he hurt himself on that opening play, gut it out for the remainder of the inning, before the trainer held him back for the 2nd?

Idaho Falls (Royals) 4 Helena 3

Box Score

Much like Brooks Hall tonight, Leonard Lorenzo pitched great besides the long balls he gave up. 6 IP 7 H 3 R 3 ER 0 BB 4 K 2 HR HBP 8:6 GO:FO for Leonard. Fireballer Damien Magnifico made his relief pitching debut tonight and pitched alright. 1 IP 1 H 1 R 0 BB 2 K 1 WP. This guy has the arm to move incredibly fast up the ladder, he just needs to throw strikes. The Magnifico pick reminds me of the David Goforth pick, but unless something changes, Magnifico is a relief pitcher only. Damien should be lighting up the radar in Appleton in no time.

At the plate, Michael Reed (2-4 2B) had a big day. Raul Mondesi Jr., with Adalberto in the field, hit his 2nd homer of the year. I have not seen Raul's name in the box score with an OF assist in awhile. I guess word got out.

Opposing starter Sam Selman is on his way to making the PL All-Star team. Great numbers so far from the old-for-his-league hurler.

Sounds Walk Off With Taylor Green's Ninth-Inning Blast

Nashville's 4-3 Victory Nets Four-Game Series Split

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Taylor Green blasted a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Nashville Sounds a 4-3 win on Thursday night at Greer Stadium in the finale of a four-game set.

On the second pitch from Joe Ortiz (0-1), Green's unloaded his second homer of the season and first since re-joining the Sounds from Milwaukee.

· AUDIO: Green Walk Off Homer

The last-at-bat victory was the Nashville's 13th of the season and gave the club a four-game series split with Round Rock.

Round Rock went ahead at 1-0 with three straight singles in the top of the fourth inning. Former Sound Brad Nelson knocked a line drive to left field, which was picked up by Corey Patterson and gunned to home plate. Greg Miclat would scurry around third base and slide under the Dayton Buller tag at home plate.

The Express extended their lead to 2-0 off reliever Donovan Hand, who walked Miclat to lead off the sixth inning. Miclat moved to third on a bloop single by Nelson and scored on a deep sacrifice fly by Ryan Spilborghs.

In his second Triple-A start, Round Rock starter Justin Grimm quieted the Sounds through the first five innings. The Bristol, Tenn. native's only baserunner through five innings was Edwin Maysonet, who singled in the third and was stranded at first.

Nashville finally got to Grimm in the sixth with an exciting three-run rally to take a 3-2 lead. Maysonet doubled down the third base line and moved to third on the ensuing play as Patterson placed a perfect infield bunt.

Eric Farris followed by hitting an infield single to Round Rock second baseman Luis Hernandez to score Maysonet, but the second base umpire ruled runner's interference against Patterson that forced Maysonet back to third.

Next batter Logan Schafer then blasted a two-run double over the left fielder's head to score both Maysonet and Farris and while removing Grimm from the game. Two batters later against reliever Neil Cotts, Sean Halton blasted a deep sacrifice fly to score Schafer for the go-ahead run.

· AUDIO: Schafer Two-Run Double

· AUDIO: Halton Sacrifice Fly

Round Rock scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth to tie the contest at 3-3. Former Vanderbilt star Matt Kata reached on an infield fielding error, moved to second on a walk by Sounds reliever Jesus Sanchez, and scored when Spilborghs singled to center.

Claudio Vargas allowed one run on five hits with a strikeout and no walks in five innings for a no-decision.

Hand was touched for one run in two hits in two innings. Juan Perez retired his only batter faced. Sanchez gave up one unearned run in 2/3 of an inning. Jim Henderson (4-3) worked around two walks for a scoreless ninth to get the victory.

The Sounds travel to The Big Easy to face the New Orleans Zephyrs (AAA-Marlins) in a four-game series beginning tomorrow, the last meeting between the two clubs this season. Nashville right-hander Wily Peralta (4-8, 4.98) makes the start against New Orleans righty Tom Koehler (9-8, 3.64) in the opener.

Nashville Box Score

I'm slightly surprised Jeff didn't mention the umpiring which was extremely questionable all series and finally came to a head in the Nashville 4th when both Caleb Gindl and Mike Guerrero were ejected on a phantom appealed swing to strike out Caleb who was actually hit by the pitch. Trust me when I say that both Gindl and Guerrero got their money's worth with the ejections, in fact Gindl had more to say after leaving the dugout on his way to the clubhouse. In today's game the umpiring issues started in the top of the 4th when the Sounds had made a tremendous stink about the ruling that Buller missed the tag allowing the run to score. However the Sounds had came out on the short end of every call prior all series long, so I wasn't surprised by the ejections, you could feel them coming. But hey, at least Taylor Green came up huge on a 1-0 count for the victory.

Huntsville 8, @Jackson 3

Huntsville Box

Stars starter Josh Stinson settled in after a shaky first inning+, putting up zeroes from the 3rd through the 7th. He scratched his way through the first without allowing a run, despite giving up three singles and one walk -- he had help from one CS and one OF assist at 2B after a Generals runner tried to turn a single into a double. Then in the 2nd, he allowed a leadoff triple. After that point, only three of the next 19 Jackson batters would reach (two singles, one BB). A groundout with one out in the 2nd did manage to bring that leadoff triple home to score, but after that, Stinson had this game locked down through the 7th. In the 8th, a leadoff walk was followed by two strikeouts... but also a two-run HR. Stinson struck out the next batter to close out the 8th, and finished with a final line of: 8 IP, 7 H, 3 R/ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 10:3 GO:AO, 103 TP

Mitch Stetter came on to begin the 9th, and faced a LH-RH-LH trio of batters. He worked through the three hitters with groundout-walk-flyout, but was pulled with another RH hitter coming up. On came Brandon Kintzler, who induced a 6-3 groundout to end the game. With a five-run lead, I'm a little surprised that Stetter wasn't just left in to finish the game, but there's no note in the game log that his removal had anything to do with injury.

All but one Huntsville batter had at least one hit, and every batter had either a hit or a walk. The key inning was the 4th, in which the Stars got some help -- an E and two WPs -- to go along with their two singles, double, and walk. They plated four runs in the frame, which alone would've been enough offense tonight.

It was C Adam Weisenburger who was the position player star for the... Stars... as he went 2-3 with a HR, two RBI, and a BB (all out of the 9-hole in the lineup). Weisenburger also was 2/2 in gunning down attempted SBs.

Kentrail Davis continued his inspired July performance, going 2-4 with one RBI; his July OPS now stands at .995. Davis stole a bag, too, and his success rate for the year is now 15/19.

Josh Prince finished 1-5 with a 2B & two RBI. Khris Davis also doubled, going 1-4 with one BB. Hunter Morris was 1-4 with one BB and one RBI. Hainley Statia went 1-4 with a BB. Scooter Gennett went 1-5. T.J. Mittelstaedt was 0-2, but had one RBI & one BB.

Huntsville PbP

After retiring the Stars in order in the top of the 1st, Jackson had its first two runners single... but each guy found a different way to make an overly-aggressive out at 2B before the hitter behind him was able to put the ball into play. I mentioned that Stinson scratched his way through this inning, & here's what happened:

Jackson Bottom of the 1st

-Francisco Martinez singles on a ground ball to third baseman Hainley Statia.

-With Nate Tenbrink batting, Francisco Martinez caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Adam Weisenburger to shortstop Tommy Manzella.

-Nate Tenbrink singles on a fly ball to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Nate Tenbrink out at 2nd, left fielder T. Mittelstaedt to second baseman Scooter Gennett.

-Stefen Romero singles on a line drive to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt.

-Joseph Dunigan walks. Stefen Romero to 2nd.

-Rich Poythress flies out to center fielder Josh Prince.

Stinson really got into a groove after allowing the leadoff triple in the following inning, & was able to keep things on cruise control for the Stars late into the game. The four-run 4th inning, which pushed their lead to 5-1, was the best offensive frame for Huntsville:

Huntsville Top of the 4th

-Hunter Morris grounds out, first baseman Rich Poythress to pitcher Forrest Snow.

-Khris Davis reaches on a fielding error by shortstop Gabriel Noriega. Khris Davis to 2nd.

-Hainley Statia singles on a ground ball to center fielder Francisco Martinez. Khris Davis scores.

-Kentrail Davis singles on a ground ball to center fielder Francisco Martinez. Hainley Statia to 3rd.

-T. J. Mittelstaedt out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Hainley Statia scores.

-Adam Weisenburger walks. Kentrail Davis to 2nd.

-With Josh Prince batting, wild pitch by Forrest Snow, Kentrail Davis to 3rd. Adam Weisenburger to 2nd.

-Josh Prince doubles (17) on a fly ball to center fielder Francisco Martinez. Kentrail Davis scores. Adam Weisenburger scores.

-With Tommy Manzella batting, wild pitch by Forrest Snow, Josh Prince to 3rd.

-Tommy Manzella grounds out, third baseman Nate Tenbrink to first baseman Rich Poythress.

Weisenburger's 2-R HR came in the 6th, and extended Huntsville's margin to 7-1. After Jackson got their own 2-R HR off Stinson in the 8th & tightened up the scoreline to 7-3, the Stars managed to get a nice response-rally in the top half of the 9th -- nothing wrong with one more tack-on run:

Huntsville Top of the 9th

-Pitching Change: Moises Hernandez replaces Mauricio Robles.

-Adam Weisenburger singles on a ground ball to center fielder Francisco Martinez.

-Josh Prince lines into a double play, right fielder Johermyn Chavez to first baseman Rich Poythress. Adam Weisenburger doubled off 1st.

-Tommy Manzella singles on a line drive to right fielder Johermyn Chavez.

-Scooter Gennett singles on a ground ball to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Tommy Manzella to 2nd.

-Hunter Morris singles on a ground ball to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Tommy Manzella scores. Scooter Gennett to 3rd.

-Khris Davis flies out to left fielder Chih-Hsien Chiang.

That could have been a lot bigger than just a one-run rally, but Jackson got the key double play. Maybe a diving catch by the RF? A hit-&-run with a laser beam off the bat of Prince? Always fun to play the MiLB-Game-Log-What-The-Heck-Happened? guessing game.

Oh, and nothing really important to note from the T-Rats game tonight.

General Lucroy recap: His only throw on a SB attempt was pretty bad (one-hopped over 2B & into CF). But his swing looked good. He hit two trademark Lucroy-liners back up the middle -- one line drive single to RCF, and one lineout to 2B, both hit well. The double to RF was a ball that probably would've been a F9 at the big-league level... he didn't really clobber that one as much as it was a well-placed flyball. Landed fair (by a decent amount) near the line, a good 20 feet or so short of the RF corner (Time Warner Field's RF foul line measurement is 325' iirc).

Final: Great Lakes 4, Wisconsin 3

Loons take game two of series

Rattlers commit four errors in 4-3 loss to Great Lakes

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were sailing along with a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. But, the calm waters turned extremely choppy as the Great Lakes Loons scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth and went on to defeat the Rattlers 4-3.

Wisconsin (57-38 overall, 13-13 second half) went in front early. Chadwin Stang tripled with one out in the bottom of the third inning. Brandon Macias followed with a single through the drawn-in infield to score Stang for a 1-0 lead. The RBI was the 48th of the season for Macias.

Yadiel Rivera knocked in another Wisconsin run in the fourth inning. Ben McMahan drew a two-out walk and Cameron Garfield followed with a single to extend the inning. Rivera would drop in a single down the right field line for a 2-0 lead.

Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller cruised through the first 5-1/3 innings, but ran into trouble as the Wisconsin defense committed three errors in the frame. The first error occurred after Miller struck out Darnell Sweeney. The ball bounced away from catcher Rafael Neda and a throw to first was needed for the second out. But, Neda threw wildly to allow Sweeney to reach. Jesus Arredondo trickled a hit-and-run single through the left side of the infield to put runners at the corners.

Miller got the second out of the inning on a pop out to shallow left, but the third out was elusive.

O'Koyea Dickson sent a sinking line drive to left that skipped to the wall for a single, and error, and two runs scored to tie the game. Dickson, who took second base on the play would score as Scott Schebler singled to left on the next pitch and the Loons had a 3-2 lead.

An odd play in the top of the seventh gave the Loons (46-50, 12-14) a 4-2 lead. James Baldwin singled and stole second. He was on second with one out when Joe Winker sent a deep fly ball to right field. Outfielder Ben McMahan made the catch against the wall, but stumbled a bit. As McMahan tried to get his footing, the speedy Baldwin raced for the plate and would score from second on the sacrifice fly for a 4-2 lead.

Wisconsin rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning as Lance Roenicke singled and Stang doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs. Macias sent a grounder past the mound that looked like it was headed for center. But, Arredondo made a diving stop and threw to first in time to get Macias. Roenicke scored on the play, but Stang could only take third base on the play. He would be stranded when the inning ended.

Roenicke would reach on a one out single in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Loons held off the Rattlers with a pair of strikeouts to end the game.

Game three of the series is Friday night. Fond du Lac native Chad Pierce (3-3, 3.86) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Loons will counter with Duke von Schamann (2-0, 2.53) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 7:05pm.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy started Thursday's game at catcher and went 2-for-3 with a double. He left, as scheduled, after the bottom of the fifth inning. He will return to the Rattlers starting lineup on Friday for game two of his scheduled four game rehabilitation assignment. Box seats and reserved bleacher seats are sold out for Friday and Saturday night. General admission grass seats remain for both Friday and Saturday.
