Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

Fangraphs: Q&A: Terry Ryan, Twins general manager

Just a ridiculously good read for those of us who like to learn about developmental philosophies at the minor league level...

I liked many things that he said, I'm sold, I should probably take a closer look at the Twins.

Below is the list of the 12 unsigned Brewers draft picks as of Thursday the 12th. Under the new CBA, the deadline to sign these players is Friday July 13th at 4:00 PM Central.

For several of these players (Adkins, McCoy, Duffie, Burns), we had previously linked on our forums to stories indicating that the players were unlikely, or even definitely, not signing with Milwaukee. It doesn't appear there is enough over-slot money left in the Brewers' pool to entice Buck Farmer away from another year with the Yellow Jackets, and a potentially much higher draft position in 2013.

One name to watch is 32nd round pick RHP Nick Anderson out of Mayville (North Dakota) State. In earlier linked stories (here and here), it seemed like Anderson's signing was a slam dunk, particularly because he's out of college eligibility (the only player on this list in that situation).

Anderson's college pitching coach indicated to me a couple of weeks back that Nick was in Milwaukee for his physical, and I'm not aware of any issues coming out of that. The coach indicated when I followed up that he was surprised about the attention I was giving a 32nd round pick, but hey, Mike Fiers was a 22nd round pick, right? Another Anderson, Drew, the former Brewer who scouted Nick Anderson, was very cordial in an email to me (which I appreciated), but indicated that he really couldn't add to the discussion but that negotiations were ongoing.

Since that would normally be an approximate $1,000-$5,000 "hey, where do I sign" bonus, not sure what the mystery is, but we'll respect all the parties involved and see what happens.

15. Buck Farmer, RHP, Georgia Tech

@Mobile 2, Huntsville 1 (Game 1)

Huntsville Box

Huntsville wasn't able to take much advantage of a juicy scoring opportunity in the 6th, as they got only one run out of a bases-loaded and zero out situation. At the time, it gave the Stars a 1-0 lead... but a clutch two-run HR from Mobile in the bottom half of the inning gave the Bay Bears the only runs they needed.

Starter Josh Stinson scrapgrittybattled his way through 5 scoreless innings, working around 7 hits: 5 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 6:3 GO:AO. Reliever Darren Byrd had another rough outing and took the loss.

Kentrail Davis had two line-drive singles and one bunt single, finishing 3-3 to lead the Stars' attack. He's been red-hot in July, after posting a .289 AVG (.689 OPS) in June. So far this month, his slash line is .316/.395/.579/.984, with 2 2B, 1 3B, and 2 HR in 11 games.

Tommy Manzella (1-3) and Stinson (1-2, 2B) were the only other Stars with hits; Stinson's double in the 3rd was the only XBH for Huntsville. T.J. Mittelstaedt, Khris Davis, and Adam Weisenburger each walked once.

Josh Prince went 0-3 with 1 BB, but also swiped his organization-leading 31st SB -- he'll hold that lead through at least tomorrow, as the BC Manatees (and Reggie Keen, currently at 30 SB) were washed out tonight.

Huntsville PbP

Here's the 6th inning -- it wasn't the Stars' only shot to score, but it certainly was their best... and then Mobile wasted no time in taking advantage of the Huntsville pitching change:

Huntsville: RHP's Josh Stinson and Evan Anundsen in a doubleheader at Mobile (Diamondbacks), 4:20 PM pre-game, 4:35 gametime
Unless there's been a mistake, Anundsen was scratched as the starter for G2 tonight. Although, maybe it was Evan Anundsen's turn to be an incorrectly listed SP -- iirc, it was Evan "Jimmy Nelson" Anundsen who made a start a couple weeks ago, with Nelson being incorrectly listed by MiLB.com as the SP.

R.J. Seidel is listed as the Huntsville starter for tonight's second game, and was removed after just 2 IP (scoreless) -- which would fit, since he's a reliever & not stretched out. Dan Meadows has put up zeroes in 3 IP thus far, and the Stars have jumped out ahead of Mobile in the 6th yet again -- they've scored three so far (just one out) and taken a 3-0 lead.

Final: Albuquerque 7, Nashville 0

Albuquerque Quiets Sounds, 7-0, In Homestand Opener

McClung Strikes Out Season-High Nine In Defeat

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, TN - Outfielder Matt Angle homered and drove three as the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes blanked the Nashville Sounds, 7-0, in the opener of a four-game series on Friday night at Greer Stadium.

The shutout loss was Nashville's seventh of the season and also snapped a three-game winning streak.

Isotopes starter Fernando Nieve (5-6) allowed four hits over six shutout innings for a quality start and victory.

Outfielder Corey Patterson had two of Nashville's four hits. Second baseman Eric Farris and outfielder Caleb Gindl also singled.

After Angle singled in the second, Brian Cavazos-Galvez gave Albuquerque a 2-0 lead with a two-run shot over the left field wall. The long ball was his sixth of the season.

Angle added to the Albuquerque lead with a solo homer over the right field wall in the fourth.

The Isotopes plated four runs in the next frame that made it 7-0. Alex Castellanos walked, moved to second a wild pitch, and scored the first run of the frame on a Josh Fields RBI single. Field would later steal second base and scored on another wild pitch from McClung. Angle then removed Nashville starter Seth McClung from the game with a two-run single to right field.

McClung (2-11) lasted 4 2/3 innings in the loss, scattering nine hits for seven runs. The 31-year-old also struck out nine Isotopes, setting a season high for Sounds starters.

Amaury Rivas followed up with 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Rob Wooten finished the game with two shutout frames.

The Sounds and Isotopes continue their series on Saturday with doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning contests beginning at 6:05 pm CT at Greer Stadium. Nashville righty Claudio Vargas (3-1, 4.89) will toe the rubber against Albuquerque right-hander Will Savage (10-3, 5.34) in the opener. Nashville will send righty Donovan Hand (1-0, 2.79) to start the twinbill finale against Albuquerque righty Blake Johnson (0-0, 6.39).

Nashville Box Score

Not a great game for the Sounds all around. They only managed four hits, all singles. Corey Patterson was 2-3. Caleb Gindl was 1-4. Eric Farris was 1-3 with a walk. Taylor Green was 0-3 with a walk in his first game back at Nashville.

Seth McClung started and struggled mightily. He gave up seven runs, all earned, on nine hits in 4.2 innings. The bullpen was the lone bright spot for the Sounds. Amaury Rivas and Rob Wooten combined for 4.1 innings of shutout ball. Rivas went 2.1 innings and gave up just one hit. Wooten pitched 2 innings, allowing one hit while walking one and striking out three.

Huntsville 4, @Mobile 2 (Game 2)

Huntsville Box

Well, the 4-run 6th wound up being enough in game 2 of the doubleheader, as the Stars were able to hold off a comeback rally attempt by the Bay Bears in their half of the frame. Mobile scored two runs on three singles, a walk, and a sac fly... but that's all they could muster.

There was no traditional SP in this one, as I mentioned in a post above, but R.J. Seidel officially started this game and worked two scoreless innings. He barely got through the 1st unscathed after the leadoff runner reached via an error, and Mobile drew two BBs and stole a base. The one-two-three 2nd inning was much more comfortable. Dan Meadows relieved Seidel, and was even more effective: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Kyle Heckathorn made his second consecutive relief appearance (his first two bullpen stints since 2010 at low-A Wisconsin), taking over in the 6th and allowing all of the Mobile scoring. Fortunately for the Stars, good Brandon Kintzler showed up for the 7th and slammed the door one-two-three for the save (two groundouts & 1 K).

Everyone can blame me for Kentrail Davis going 0-3 with the golden sombrero in the second game tonight after I highlighted his hot start to July after game 1. Sorry about that.

Josh Prince went 1-3 with an RBI double in the 6th, followed by swiping 3B as the front end of a double-steal three batters later. So that's now 32 SB on the season... your move, Reggie Keen!

Tommy Manzella went 2-3 with a pair of singles. Lee Haydel, T.J. Mittelstaedt, and Domnit Bolivar each went 1-3; Mittelstaedt & Bolivar added one RBI apiece.

Hunter Morris saw his 7-game hitting streak snapped in game 1, and apparently Mobile figured him out after he went 2-4 against them on Wednesday. Morris was 0-fer the doubleheader, 0-4 in G1 and 0-3 in G2.

Huntsville PbP

Again the 6th inning saw all of the scoring, but since I already posted the Stars' half, here's Kintzler's clean frame for the save:

Mobile Bottom of the 7th

-Pitcher Change: Brandon Kintzler replaces Kyle Heckathorn, batting 9th.

-Wladimir Sutil grounds out, third baseman T. J. Mittelstaedt to first baseman Hunter Morris.

-Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter David Nick replaces Yonata Ortega.

-David Nick strikes out swinging.

-Evan Frey grounds out, shortstop Tommy Manzella to first baseman Hunter Morris.

Final: Wisconsin 6, Lake County 7 (15 Innings)

Captains edge Rattlers in 15-inning marathon

Lake County spoils Walla's big night

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

EASTLAKE, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rallied from a 5-1 deficit and held 6-5 twelfth inning lead over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park on Friday night. But, the Jordan Smith drove in the tying run in the twelfth and the winning run in the fifteenth to defeat the Rattlers 7-6. Smith, who drove in three runs on the night, spoiled a big night for Rattlers outfielder Max Walla. Walla went 4-for-7 with two homers and three huge RBI for Wisconsin.

Lake County (41-49 overall, 10-11 second half) took the lead with a first inning run. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller issued a four-pitch walk with two outs to Luigi Rodriguez. Rodriguez would get into scoring position by stealing second base. Smith singled to left to score Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead.

Tyler Roberts tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. The Timber Rattlers designated hitter lined a 1-0 pitch from Mason Radeke to the bleachers in left field for his fourth home run of the season. The solo shot tied the game 1-1.

But, the tie did not last long. Patric Tolentino hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to push Lake County back in front. An error, a stolen base, and a two-out RBI double by Francisco Lindor gave the Captains another run for a 3-1 lead.

The Captains plated two more runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Tolentino and Todd Hankins put the Captains up 5-1.

The Rattlers (55-35, 11-10) pulled closer with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Yadiel Rivera drew a leadoff walk and went from first to third on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. He scored on a second wild pitch in the inning. Walla lined a home run to left to start the Rattlers eighth inning and Lake County's lead was down to a pair of runs.

In the ninth, Rivera walked and Roberts doubled to start the inning and put runners on second and third with no outs. Lance Roenicke entered the game as a pinch runner for Roberts. Adrian Williams grounded out to first to get Rivera home. But, Roenicke was still at third with the tying run with two outs in the inning.

Walla got Roenicke home with a two-out single to left to tie the game 5-5.

The score was still tied with one out in the top of the twelfth inning. Walla stepped into the batter's box and step up again. He lined another opposite field home run to left to put the Rattlers in front 6-5. It was the first lead of the night for the Rattlers.

But, the Captains took advantage of a defensive miscue in the bottom of the twelfth to tie the game. Francisco Lindor reached on an error to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved him into scoring position. Smith would line a 2-0 pitch to center to send Lindor home with the tying run.

Lake County had the winning run in scoring position in the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth inning, but could not break through with the winning run.

In the fifteenth, Jose Ramirez blooped a double into center. An intentional walk was issued to Lindor. A passed ball with Luigi Rodriguez moved both runners into scoring position. So, another intentional walk was issued to load the bases and bring Smith to the plate again,

But, before Smith could bat, the Rattlers brought Walla in from right field to play first base and set up a defense with five infielders and two outfielders.

Smith would send a soft fly ball to left field. Ben McMahan, the Timber Rattlers leader in outfield assists with nine this season, made the catch and fired home, but a tad off target. Ramirez made a headfirst dive to the infield part of the plate and avoided the tag to score the winning run.

The Timber Rattlers continue their road trip when they start a three-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field on Saturday night. Chad Pierce (3-3, 4.05) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Fort Wayne sends Matt Wisler (3-4, 2.42) to the hill. Game time is 6:05pm CDT. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM and timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:45pm.

Wisconsin Box Score

Tough, tough loss for the Rattlers in 15 innings, but somehow I think they will bounce right back tomorrow. They've shown a remarkable ability to shake off nights like this and let it go before they hit the bus. Max Walla had a huge night going 4-7 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Roberts was 2-4 with a home run and a double before being lifted in the 9th for a pinch runner. Cameron Garfield was on base five times. He was 2-4 with a double and three walks. Rough night at the plate for a couple of players. Chadwin Stang and Michael Garza each went 0-7 and Adrian Williams was 0-6. Brandon Macias, Yadiel Rivera and Ben McMahan each struck out four times.

Matt Miller started for the T-Rats. He went 5.2 innings and gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits. Stosh Wawrzasek threw four scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out four. Alan Williams pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one unearned run. Stephen Peterson pitched 2.1 innings and gave up one run. He walked six, but four of the six were intentional.

AZL Padres 8, AZL Brewers 2

Arizona Box Score

It was a matchup of newly drafted high schoolers as Zach Quintana took on 1st rounder Max Fried. Quintana was cruising until the third inning when it came apart, resulting in his worst outing so far as a pro (3IP 5H 4ER 2BB 2K). Ryan Fasano was okay (2IP 3H 1ER 3K). Daniel Keller had his best outing of the year (4IP 6H 3ER 2K); very disappointing this year.

Defensively, both middle infielders, Ortega and Jenkins, had an error but had no bearing on the outcome of the game.

The bad A-Crew offense showed up today as they had one hit. The surprising Malcolm Dowell had the only baseball knock. His average this year is now .333. Clint Coulter, Jose Pena, Dustin Houle (2) got on base as well with walks.
