2012-07-07 Brewers (Greinke) at Astros (Rodriguez), 3:05 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 6-3; Greinke ejected after four pitches]

It was only obvious after he said he was mad at himself. Spiking the ball after a bang bang play 9/10 times is frustration at the ump or is perceived to be that. The fact remains it was dumb of Greinke to spike the ball in the first place.

It was silly of him and a poor choice. I just have a hard time when someone does that out of anger and the ump infers what he thinks he is mad about and makes a rash decision. Might as well start throwing guys out for swearing after a strike out or tough call.

Hey i joined the game a little late.. can any one give me a full explanation of the greinke ejection so i know how much to be angry at the umpires?

Lead off triple which Im hearing Gomez messed up somehow(missed it). Bang bang play on a ball hit to Hart. Altuve was safe and was called safe. ZG threw the ball into the ground and the ump ejected him immediately. ZG told him he was upset with himself and not the call. Then Ron got tossed too.

No, it was clear that his frustration was with himself the second he got caught being a spectator and got over to 1st late to cover on what was a nice play. Have you EVER seen Greinke show really any emotion toward an ump what so ever?? Again, he never looked at Holbrook. Never said a word to him. It was a complete joke of an ejection and pretty much everyone knows it...and I'm betting that includes even Holbrook at this point.

You guys that hate on Gomez act like there's a better option to lead off or bat #2. Name someone, please? I'd love to hear it. WEEKS/HART ARE NOT, I REPEAT ARE NOT LEAD OFF HITTERS. They are 5-7 hitters in good lineups that drive in runs. Get over it.

He was coming in and tried to make a shoe string catch a little off to the side. He missed it and ball rolled past him to deep CF. Schafer was going to go for the inside-the-park HR but was held up at 3rd after a good throw from Gomez.

1. Aoki

2. Braun

3. Ramirez

4. Hart

5. Weeks

6. Whoever's catching that day

7. Gomez/Ransom

8. Ransom/Gomez

Granderson is out for the Yankees today, so instead of Girardi just plugging in some scrub hitter to bat 2nd (if that exists on the Yankees) he just moved up Tex to #2 along with everyone else moving up one. I'm in no way comparing the Brewers offense to the Yankees, but it's the same concept.

Glad that's settled.

Aoki is a much better leadoff option, actually.

Did the ump even see Greinke throw the ball down? Or did he throw him out when he saw the ball rolling away?

The replay made it seem like he saw it and he took about 3 seconds to digest everything before the ump came to the conclusion that he should be offended. Its amazing how inconsistent and subjective umpiring has become. I have seen batters slam down their helmets many times after looking at strike 3 and never get tossed. Apparently this umpire's feelings get hurt very easily.

yes aoki is clearly the best leadoff option. RR not seeing this is past a joke at this point. Have morgan/ gomez in the 2 hole simply to bunt him over. That makes too much sense though.

Ok fine Aoki batting 1. Who hats 2? Oh Braun? Mmmk. Oh just bunt everytime? Mmmk. I could understand the complaining if there were options. It's like complaining about RR and the bullpen. You can't just wave a magic wand and blaaaamoooooh there's a 2 hitter. Blaaaaaamooooh, there's some bullpen help. Oh, blaaaamooooooooooh there's a closer. Now we got a team. Stupid talk. It's not a video game.

Do we have to give other options using your faulty logic of where other players should be allowed to bat?

1. You're still visibly upset.

2. Blaaaaamoooooh is not the noise a magic wand makes.

3. Your sig is wrong.

I agree. Greinke never even looked in the umps direction nor did he appear to say a word. There's a difference between being mad at a call and showing up/insulting an umpire. Poor job Mr. umpire. I'm usually the one to defend an umpire but not this time.

You're right, it's not a video game, it's real life. And in real life, the act of getting on base is the most important quality for a leadoff hitter. Not speed, good defense, or being a good bunter. Getting on base.

There is no law that says your #2 hitter needs to be a good bunter, and there are options. There is nothing wrong with having a good power hitting #2 hitter. That's actually a great option if you want to bat the pitcher 8th is having a guy like Hart bat 2nd.

So with that in mind, there is nothing wrong with a lineup like Aoki/Hart/Braun/Ramirez/Weeks/Maldanado/Gomez/Ransom. And if you want, you can certainly put Lucroy at #2 and bump Hart back to #5 and Weeks back a spot when he returns.

Carlos Gomez has a .283 on base percentage. In no world and on no other team is a leadoff hitter who gets on base 28% of the time acceptable. There is not a lot of good "on base" guys on this team, but your worst does not belong at the top.

Not to beat dead horse here, but another main point about the ejection is its not a position player getting tossed here, its the starting pitcher getting tossed after the 2nd batter!! It's just not something you ever see, mainly because starting pitchers are usually allowed some leeway, unless its arguing balls and strikes. I REALLY hope Holbrook is reprimanded for this, as he should be.
