Anyone a bit surprised that Greinke was lifted with 96 pitches?

A bit peculiar. Rock assuming Ron wanted more offense. Perhaps they are saving him incase of a trade. Another guess he may have had.

okay, i can understand the saving him in case of the trade. you don't want him screwing up - borderline at the pitch count, etc. i actually can see how the team would do that.

So now, when we have a player performing well, and have a chance to win a game, we have to complicate things even more by pulling said player in case we trade him? Winning the game is now noticeably taking the back seat to saving players for trades?

I hate this season.

Why in god's name do a suicide squeeze with bases loaded? you've got two chances for a hit, a walk, a wild pitch, a deep fly ball -- it's not like it's guaranteed to work.

sigh.

im guessing nyjer morgan's inability to hit LHP played into it. definitely not the right call, but maybe the line of thinking is "he's going to get out either way, maybe he can push a run across this way". Of course that would entail him getting the bunt down in the first place.

In that case, we should have brought on one of our awesome right handed hitting pinch hitters. Like... let's see.... Brooks Conrad. Opps. My bad. Maysonet... no, at AAA. Ummm.... ummm.... Lucroy? Not quite yet. Ummmm.... Izturis......

Okay, maybe the bunt was the way to go.

Was Ryan Braun available?

So Morgan in this series has

1. Forgot what the count was and got caught in no mans land between 2nd and 3rd

2. misjudged a fly ball that a little leaguer could have caught

3. Missed a suicide squeeze sign

He also made a great catch yesterday.

Did I miss anything?

i dont think it had anything to do with a trade. I think it was more about wanting to push another run or two across. Although with no outs and no force for a double play, i don't really see the need. Let Greinke take some hacks and try to hit a sac fly, if he doesn't you still have two more outs to work with.

Although Loe pitched great in the 7th, so I guess it's a moot point.

I only have Gameday but let me guess: RR calls for a suicide squeeze on a ball in the dirt, Ransom left to die.

By my count, that is at least 4 failed squeeze attempts this year. As I've mentioned several times before, you need to have a success rate way over 90% to justify a suicide squeeze attempt. Other managers don't call a million squeezes because they know realize the break even point is usually very high. RR apparently doesn't and apparently thinks he's stumbled on something brilliant.

--according to joe buck that is only the 2nd failed attempt.

oops i meant joe block wowsers.

Maybe two times when the runner was thrown out at home. There have been at least 2 other times where a bunt attempt with a runner at third did not result in a run scored. At at least one of those was on a safety squeeze but I was lumping the suicide and safety squeezes together.

Even two failures makes it pretty much a losing strategy, though.

please stop calling the fox saturday game the "national game". i hate saturday baseball so much.

Yes, thanks for saying this. It's actually the complete opposite of the national game. The correct term is the "regional and international only game" because nobody else is allowed to watch the game.

I also make sure not to watch the Fox game. I had hoped that they get as low of TV ratings as possible, but instead they have just decided to add even more regional games to make up for it.

Hart should just stay at 1B straight up, from now on... He has made a LOT of plays that Prince wouldn't have been able to make.

and K-Rod gets bailed out again.

I haven't watched Corey play 1B a lot, but when I have, he seems like a natural. The big wingspan of his is awesome.
