Makes sense, I could see Thornburg as a 7th or 8th inning guy. But he still has time to learn how to deal with fatigue, it happens to all pitchers and he can learn to use his pitches properly.

That's what I'm getting at. Yeah the location on the pitches was pretty cruddy but he also looked like he was just throwing fastballs toward the end to get them over and they were crushed.

Result? Three home runs in a row, and now we're behind because our idiot manager couldn't outmanage Terry Schiavo.

The velocity, he fell down to high 80s in the 6th but the HRs were on 92/93, and he threw some really good breaking pitches. Not sure what to make of it.

The two 88mph pitches in the 6th were to Villanueva after falling behind 2-0. Just get me over strikes.

I'm sorry, you're right. That was in poor taste. I'll edit it myself.

Can Dillard be any more worthless?

I cringe when I see him and Veras enter a game, well, I actually cringe when I se Loe and K-Rod too... (and Axford.....nervous laugh)

That's a really tough lineup for Thornburg to have to make his first start against. Power up and down the Jays lineup and he found out quickly the difference between mistake pitches in AA and the majors.

He should have been pulled after 5 innings. Asking the kid to go from AA to MLB, facing one of the better offenses in the majors, and going through the lineup three times, was too much. But Roenicke would rather "save his bullpen", and make the kid labor through another inning.

Your nuts and acting like a typical fan on many sports forums, way overreacting to everything.

Thornburg was pitching fine through five and there was zero reason for RR to pull him before the inning started. None. Maybe he waited one batter to many, but that's it.

Plus, our middle relief is garbage anyways.

We couldn't have predicted the struggles with K Rod and Axford, but the rest of the bullpen leaves a lot to be desired.

I know Saito has been injured, and I don't think he's pitched yet this season, but I'd have kept him in house for this season. As far as Loe, I think he could be decent, but he's inconsistent.

The rest? Terrible.

exactly. if thornburg got pulled after 5 innings, and dillard came in and gave up the lead everyone would have flipped out.

I don't think I'm overreacting at all. Thornburg was pitching at AA yesterday, and tonight he's facing one of the toughest lineups in the majors. We got 5 great innings out of him. Asking him to go through that lineup a third time was asking for trouble, and that's what we got.

Thornburg will be a great pitcher for us, but we were expecting too much for a guy that's pitched 10 games in AA to come in and pitch six or more innings at the Major League level.

Overall, I'm happy with what we saw from Thornburg tonight. Get him up to AAA, and let him start seeing some competition comparable to MLB talent.
