Thorny has good breaking pitches but that fastball has nothing. Maybe it did earlier in the game? (I just started watching last inning)

Nice to see the fans give him a hand though.

Roenicke, you ***** idiot. Good job leaving him in. Back to back to back home runs.

Should have came out after #2 for certain...

After back to back home runs, Thornburg should have never been in to pitch to Encarnacion. But our manager is a mental midget.

He was hitting the mid to upper 90s earlier (94-96 regularly)

He was gassed. Thank god we have men earning 6 figure salaries to monitor such things and pull him when he was tired...

he might have lost a few mph on it...but for the most part he just started throwing it right down the middle. can't do that against anyone, especially the blue jays though.

Yeah, that's the complaint against him. He can really run it up there early on but his FB loses steam after a few innings. That's why a lot of scouts see him eventually in the bullpen.

I wouldn't got someone up immediately after the Rasmus HR.

Enjoy AAA ThornDog. Maybe we'll see ya in September.

I switched channels because I thought there had to be a pitching change after the 2nd HR....

Anybody with half a brain would think "hmm, 23 year old making his first MLB appearance. 70 + pitches already, back to back home runs, and a big masher coming up. Let's pull him. He's done well, kept us in the game".

But noooooooooooooooooooooooo, not the sloth Ron Roenicke. His brain operates on "slow".

Has anyone ever has such a massive career turnaround like Bautista has?

Brady Anderson?

Not really a turnaround for Anderson, just a ridiculous HR spike one year (steroids most likely). He was still a pretty good player in those other years.

I can see why Keith Law think Thornburg will probably end up in the bullpen. Can pump it for a few innings, but that Fastball wears out.

It wasn't a velocity problem. The pitch to Rasmus was up and the next two split the center of the plate.

The velocity, he fell down to high 80s in the 6th but the HRs were on 92/93, and he threw some really good breaking pitches. Not sure what to make of it.

He was gassed.

Yup, another reason why the magical 100 pitch count is so dumb. A guy can be cruising with 110 pitches but he cant go anymore, and Thornburg only had 75 pitches and although he had lost 5 mph on his FB he can stay in because he isnt at 100 pitches. It is such a crutch for managers

Makes sense, I could see Thornburg as a 7th or 8th inning guy. But he still has time to learn how to deal with fatigue, it happens to all pitchers and he can learn to use his pitches properly.

That's a really tough lineup for Thornburg to have to make his first start against. Power up and down the Jays lineup and he found out quickly the difference between mistake pitches in AA and the majors.

He should have been pulled after 5 innings. Asking the kid to go from AA to MLB, facing one of the better offenses in the majors, and going through the lineup three times, was too much. But Roenicke would rather "save his bullpen", and make the kid labor through another inning.

Result? Three home runs in a row, and now we're behind because of our idiot manager.
