so why was there so much handwringing again to pull Thornburg after 5IP?? To get to this bullpen?

just goes to show that bullpens are the toughest thing to predict year over year. Last year it was a huge strength, this year it's reason #1 why they won't be playoff contenders.

So glad they didn't give Ax an extension.

Yep, extensions to closers is never a good idea. Trade them to people who overvalue closers

I don't think any AL teams will be calling.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Rickie will 3TO this AB, Ill take a HR but a K would give him the league lead back from Hart

Looks like hes got the lead back

Good to see the Brewers are #1 in something.

Ransom pinch hitting? Why not Green? Seriously?

Axford's issue is he can't throw that curve for a strike. When he was dominate he could drop the curve in for a stike at anytime; so that fastball blew hitters away. Now they sit fastball because that is all he can get over. He simply lost the feel for the curve.

Green walkoff would be awesome!

Overall, I'm happy with what we saw from Thornburg tonight. Get him up to AAA, and let him start seeing some competition comparable to MLB talent.

Ummmm AAA talent is normally less than what you would see at AA. AAA is full of AAAA players or veteran MLB players (Suppan, Hall, etc type of players). I would say at AAA it is step down talent wise and there is more MLB talent in AA. I would rather see Thornburg stay in AA where the competition is actually higher than that of what it would be in AAA.

False. Top pitching prospects don't spend much time in AAA, that much is true. However it's a decent enough jump for pitchers, AAA is step definitely a step up. It's just more valuable for pitchers than hitters... hitters can get used to facing crafty junkballers, pitchers will have to face many hitters with MLB experienced who are fairly polished with good approaches at the plate. Just take a look around at all of the top prospects struggling in AAA this season... as more MLB teams stash depth in AAA and now even AA the line-ups pitchers face are becoming less prospect laden and more professional hitter filled by the year.

The Brewers AA team started the year with guys like Jay Gibbons playing down there, it's just the way it is now.
