2012-06-14 Brewers (Marcum) at Royals (Hochevar), 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 4-3]

Good thing RR got his contract extended. This team plays smart, fundamental baseball every night. I swear they screw up so often we forget half of them. Gomez doubled up at 2nd on a routine fly ball tonight just one of many, many examples. At some point doesn't that fall on the Manager? I get they've had a lot of injuries. But that doesn't forgive all the bone-headed plays we see night in, night out.

This ^^^.

Ron Roenicke couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. I'll leave it at that.

Does anyone actually think this roster has playoff talent? I don't think there's a single manager in MLB that could go .500 with this team.

They are 13th in the NL in ERA and 7th in OPS. I fail to see how Roenicke is capable of getting those numbers back to 7th and 2nd like last year.

The Royals are 8th in the AL in ERA and 10th in OPS. The Royals are an equally talented team. They have about the same record as the Brewers. So it was really no surprise that the series was evenly matched.

Usually when the bullpen is struggling, the manager gets blamed.

Who extends a manager after one season?

stayed away all night but again caught the end but if i didn't see the ending with my own eyes i would have never believed it.

this team is near to rock bottom and they are totally lost and no direction,it comes a time when the Brewers have to make a decision on Grienke and then go into full Sellers mode.

No manager is capable of getting this lineup to be 2nd in OPS (although the pitching should be better), but the point is that Roenicke will lose you those 3-4 games that a manager can actually swing over the course of a season vs. the average manager.

Something that you cannot prove. He may win you games other managers don't either. Not saying he's been perfect but he had a pretty great first season managing. You can give me the line LaRussa outmanaged him, well LaRussa out managed everyone everyone. RR has his faults, they all do, but hes got very little talent since the injuries depleted the team and he has vets underperforming so badly it hurts my eyes to watch. You can't lay that on him.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

He really didn't. He had a fantastic team that went on a good run in July/August. He gives away outs like they don't matter. Has some weird man love for Gomez. He sticks with guys way to long that are unproven. He consistently plays veterans over more talented younger players. Those things cost you games.

I actually think he is the perfect manager for this team though. We no longer have playoff aspirations and the players like him.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Sure I can. If the vets are underperforming, it's the manager's job to get them motivated. A good manager inspires his team. A bad one sits there blowing sunshine up everybody's behind.

I can also lay dumb decisions at his feet. And he's made plenty. Mismanagement of the bullpen, for one. Taking Parra out in game #2 because he'd "done his job" is ridiculous.

From JSOnline blog June 13th: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/159000895.html#!page=2&pageSize=10&sort=newestfirst

Manny Parra followed Axford with a clean 10th inning. Still, Roenicke said he didn't want to bring him back for another inning mostly because of matchups, but also for another reason.

"We’ve got Kameron Loe and we’ve got Veras down there," he said. "We shouldn’t have to put Manny back in the ballgame. He did his job."

He got through the inning with 9 pitches. No reason to use an extra pitcher when you've got a guy that's throwing well. Parra is a big boy. He's capable of throwing two innings. But genius Ron pulls him 'cause he's got other guys in the pen.

And the injury excuse only works so much. When we didn't have the injuries, we weren't performing well, either. This team is underachieving, and horribly mismanaged. Period.

I'm glad my band had a show last night and I couldn't watch this one. Sounds like another frustrating stinker of a mess.

Melvin needs to convince Attanasio it's time to look at selling. Can anyone really look at the present roster and see this team even grabbing a wildcard spot?

He wasn't just outmanaged by LaRussa, he was outmanaged by Yost.

No, I can't lay everything on him, but I can lay puzzling pinch-hitting moves, including putting in Brooks Conrad for position players in big RBI situations, while withholding other pinch hitting moves that make sense at the time, puzzling bullpen switches, among many other "managerial" moves.
