Dearest Edwin, the trail runner is irrelevant in that situation. Best case is he's got a low baseball IQ and runs into an out. Worst case... well, we just saw that. Oof.

I say this all the time, but the dropped third strike rule is the dumbest rule in baseball. Who came up with it? What was the reasoning behind it? What's the point in rewarding hitters who swung at pitches that weren't close?

That is a good point and i would be interested to hear the thought process behind it as well

I've thought this as well. It comes to mind every time I see it. It's so stupid. There shouldn't be any reward for swinging at a pitch in the dirt.

From wikipedia.

One intent of this rule is to ensure that a defensive player fields the ball cleanly in order for that team to record an out. It was thought that it was not enough that the offensive player be unsuccessful at the plate in order for an out to be made; a defensive player must be successful as well.

Dumb.

Weeks, youre terrible at everything. Nice throw.

that's almost all on maysonet. there's no reason to make that throw to second, and on top of that it was a really poor throw. Rickie still could have handled it and got it home better.....but Maysonet is the one to blame for that run.

Maysonets decision to throw the ball to 2nd was awful. Nothing good comes from that. Hold the ball. Dont give the fast guy at 3rd a chance to score.

A decent throw and he's out. Though correct me if I'm wrong if Pena gets in a run down and stays in one long enough for Maier to cross home plate, the run counts and the Royals win anyways, right? Either way I think the best decision there is to hold the ball and hope Axford can get the last out.

ARam was telling him to throw it there.

Also nice throw Weeks, I have been railed here for getting on Weeks for only throwing sidearm but that is a time where it hurt

Nice to see on the replay that Ramirez was also encouraging the throw to second. At least the team is all of one mind in its efforts to flush the season by the ASB.

Should be a fun short flight to MPLS.

When is the easy part of the schedule(when we go on a long winning streak and get back over .500) again?

That is coming up in the summer of 2013. Looking forward to it

Personally I thank Maysonet from saving us from more extra inning misery.

that's very true...it's getting late here and i need some sleep. time to go watch the heat/thunder in bed.

ugh, stupid baseball. i hate you so much right now.

The only reasons to even watch this team right now is Braun and Greinke and I feel like in a few weeks it will be just down to Braun. I can't decides whats more frustrating, the complete lack of fundimentals this team shows, the poor decisions made by our manager, or the complete regression by many of the players this year. Either way they all reflect poorly on Roenicke and Co.

Good thing RR got his contract extended. This team plays smart, fundamental baseball every night. I swear they screw up so often we forget half of them. Gomez doubled up at 2nd on a routine fly ball tonight just one of many, many examples. At some point doesn't that fall on the Manager? I get they've had a lot of injuries. But that doesn't forgive all the bone-headed plays we see night in, night out.

Correct, and Pena turned back as soon as he saw the throw to 2B. It's a low percentage chance for an out, especially with a fast runner in front of Pena. I get that it's an instinct play to go after the trail runner, but in that situation it's irrelevant.

Apparently the Roenicke tongue lashing last night didn't do any good. The bullpen still sucks.

This team is a complete joke. I'm going to throw up.
