Greatest Brewerfan Game Thread Ever

Mass Haas
Brewer Fanatic Staff

This morning's BrewCrewBall "Today in Brewers History" (please read for context) reminded me to link to the unquestioned Greatest, Most Entertaining Brewerfan Game Thread Ever.

A Tuesday night, West Coast game, 17 innings, four hours and 46 minutes, a Brewers victory -- awesome.

Living on the East Coast, I still remember staying up for every pitch and listening to Jim Powell comment on the thread, which was brought to his attention, as he relayed how impressed he was with the number of people who stayed with this great contest.

Needless to say, a few of us struggled at work or the classroom the following morning.

Be sure to check out the remarkable work of our then-staffer "Batman" on this game.

Batman left us without nary saying goodbye, but is still doing well, from what the web tells me. He had to cold turkey us, but man, was he prolific while on board.

I know I posted a bunch that night....but I'm still baffled why anyone would eat a cheese sandwich when they could have a grilled cheese. It's vastly superior in every way! MMM...molten cheese

Great memories, and it's funny seeing that we just drafted Mark Rogers and people were joking that we might need to call him up to start the next game. Wow that was a long time ago.

thankfully, the game ended around 11:00 local time so it wasn't all that bad for me. It certainly was a fun one. I think it was one of the first IGTs that I really participated in.

That was a crazy night and game. As I read the first part of the game thread

"Ben Sheets gets back on the hill for the Brewers. He was originally scheduled to face Jarrod Washburn".

I now coach with Jarrod Washburn and have coached his kid. I am getting old.

"I'd prefer to see Kiesch in the DH spot, but I assume they brought Liefer up to be the DH in these series'. Winable series if they win tonight, as Washburn is very beatable."

Just read this post and laughed out loud.

Does anybody know why Kieschnick couldn't find a job anywhere after the Brewers? He was a .248/.315/.444 career hitter in 336 PA's and had a 4.13 FIP in 96 innings. Seems like he would have been a good 25th man on an MLB roster for at least another year or so.

Yup, so did I. And that was my post. He was a better hitter than Jeff Liefer, though.

Because mangers are poor thinkers. A power bench bat that filsl a Dillard bullpen role? Not sure why you wouldn't want that.

That was a compelling game. I still recount Vlad hitting a pitch at his ankles to break up the no-no. Junior Spivey committing errors. Geoff Jenkins striking out 6 times. As I was watching the game in the middle of the night I'm pretty sure I yelled at my TV "Run Craig, run!"

As far as the thread, I enjoy how whenever the Brewers are in extra innings or have a really long game now someone mentions cheese sandwiches because of that thread.

I will never forgive Vladmir for costing Ben Sheets a perfect game the way he did. Sure he probably wouldn't have been credited with a perfect game anyway since it went into extras but still, you don't swing at a ball the hits the ground and get a hit out of it.

Sheeter's hammer curve was unhittable that game. Well for every MLB player except one.

Batman was a Keith Ginter apologist!

We still never answered the question: Can Bill Hall pitch?

The Kansas City Royals did find out that yes indeed, Bill Hall can pitch (http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8455089).

He's no Drew Butera, but high 80's isn't bad.
