McCalvy also notes that the Brewers announced the signing of undrafted free agent catcher Joe Andrade out of Dixie State (Utah) College.

Andrade, a senior out of Yuma, AZ, is a left-handed bat. He completed the regular season by hitting .330 in 49 games and 48 starts for the Red Storm. He had 58 base hits, 28 runs scored, 15 doubles, 44 runs batted in, four homers, 16 walks and a .483 slugging rate.

Via Chris Mehring:

Saturday Roster moves for the TimberRattlers: IF Carlos George to DL & Mike Garza (20th round, 2012) to Wisconsin from Helena.

George was HBP on the hand Thursday -- not a definite, but DL stint is likely related to that.

22-year-old Mike Garza out of Georgetown has been impressive, even for inflated Pioneer League numbers (stats). Struggling H-Crew just lost their cleanup third baseman. It'll be fun if Garza gets off to a hot start in Appleton.

Nice -- 18-year-old 2nd round CF Tyrone Taylor has been bumped from Maryvale to Helena, that didn't take long (stats: 1.120 OPS in first 35 pro AB's).

Love the potential and athleticism in the H-Crew outfield -- Taylor, Reed, Ozuna, Mondesi, Jr. and Yonki Hernandez.

Well that's certainly cool to see; he sure was ripping up the AZL competition. I hope he goes on and makes me look clueless for ranting that I wanted the Brewers to after one of th e higher-upside HS arms available at his pick.

From the Stars:

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Milwaukee Brewers and Huntsville Stars have made a pair of roster moves prior to tonight’s series finale against the Jacksonville Suns. OF Khris Davis was activated from the disabled list while INF Juan Sanchez was transferred to Triple-A Nashville.

Davis was placed on the DL back on June 9, just five days after being activated from a month-long stint on the DL. In five games with the Arizona Brewers for a rehab assignment, Davis went 7-for-18 (.389) with three home runs, five RBIs, two walks and seven strikeouts.

Sanchez is batting .189 (23-for-122) in 46 games with the Stars this season. He’s hit six extra-base hits and drawn nine walks while striking out 22 times. The utility player started the season with High-A Brevard County before being transferred to Huntsville on April 23.

With these moves, the Stars active roster is at 25-man capacity.

Nashville is going to have to free up two spots before Thursday. One will be the player brought up to replace Taylor Green on the big league roster (why do I fear Corey Patterson's latest hot stretch?).

There's the one spot. Jay Gibbons announced his retirement today.

That's sort of surprising, he was cold over over the last couple of weeks, best of luck Jay.

Sounds like Mitch Haniger is off to Arizona to rehab a partially torn PCL.

I'm sure Mass Haas will be all over this later today, but per Adam McCalvy's blog, Haniger is expected to miss 6 weeks:

Mitch Haniger, the promising outfielder selected 38th overall by the Brewers in this year’s First-Year Player Draft, told his Twitter followers that he would miss about six weeks with a partially torn ligament in his right knee. Haniger tweeted a photo of his knee in a brace and said the injury was to his PCL.

That’s a tough break for Haniger, who batted .286 with a home run and eight RBIs in his first 14 games at Class A Wisconsin. The Timber Rattlers’ regular season only runs through Sept. 3, so the Brewers may have to come up with some additional at-bats for Haniger in instructional ball or the Arizona Fall League.

2010 17th round LHP Brian Garman out of the University of Cincinnati, who has had one of the quieter really sweet, not only seasons, but careers thus far, is on his way to Huntsville from Brevard County, according to teammate Greg Holle's tweet.

And as per Manatee RHP Seth Harvey's tweet, 23-year-old former University of Florida RHP Tommy Toledo (11th round, 2011) will be moving up to Brevard from Wisconsin.

REMINDER FROM EARLIER THIS MONTH, BUT DIDN'T TAKE PLACE AFTER ALL --

It's undrafted free agent night.

The Brewers have signed University of Nebraska-Omaha senior catcher Colby McCord.

By Rob White, Omaha World-Herald Staff Writer

Former UNO catcher Colby McCord has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers organization and is scheduled to report to the team’s spring training headquarters in Arizona on Wednesday.

“We’re very happy for Colby, obviously,” UNO coach Bob Herold said. “He’s a guy who continued to improve every year.”

McCord hit a team-high .366 this past season. He also led the Mavericks in slugging percentage (.535), on-base percentage (.435), runs (27), hits (63), doubles (18) and total bases (92).

In four years with the Mavs, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Papillion-La Vista product hit .324 with nine homers and 77 RBIs.

Scouts showed interest in McCord, but he wasn’t selected in the 40-round draft earlier this month.

“Since they took 10 rounds out of the draft (it had been 50), that’s 300 guys who didn’t get drafted this year that normally would have,” Herold said. “That’s where he probably fit in. We’re just happy that he’s getting the opportunity.”

Herold said the Brewers were following the recommendation of one of their scouts, former Nebraska and major league outfielder Drew Anderson, in signing McCord.

Not sure what happened with the McCord signing, but it must have fallen through. Won't be a Brewer.

To fill the Wisconsin roster spot left by RHP Tommy Toledo's promotion to Brevard County, catcher Tyler Roberts has been activated from the Rattlers DL.

The 25-man roster has 12 pitchers and 13 position players now (including three catchers).

From Huntsville:

RHP Baker to Nashville; LHP Garman to Huntsville

MOBILE, Ala. – The Milwaukee Brewers and Huntsville Stars have made a pair of roster moves prior to tonight’s game at Mobile. RHP Brian Baker has been transferred to Triple-A Nashville. To fill the empty roster spot, LHP Brian Garman has been transferred to Huntsville from High-A Brevard County. Garman will be active for tonight’s game at Mobile.

Baker threw a gem in last night’s 3-2 loss to Mobile. He pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, giving up two unearned runs while striking out five. That was just his second appearance for the Stars, after being transferred from Nashville on July 3.

The 23-year-old Garman is making his first trip to the Double-A level. He went 3-3 with a 1.88 ERA in 22 appearances (one start) for the Brevard County Manatees. In 38.1 innings, he struck out 46 batters and only allowed 12 walks. The Ohio native was drafted by the Brewers in the 17 th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

With these moves, the Stars active roster is at 25, the Southern League limit.

The Sounds roster is now full at 25 with Brian Baker's addition.

If Tim Dillard accepts his assignment to Nashville and continues his 10th season in the Brewers' organization (Nashville is also where Dillard calls home), then the Sounds will need to make another move.

As per the Stars --

The Brewers have released 25-year-old OF Scott Krieger (career stats), who had been on the Huntsville 7-day DL retroactive to June 28th.

We won't know if there was an actual injury or whether it was a bit of a phantom DL "holding spot" in this instance.

Krieger was a 19th round pick in 2009 out of George Mason. Beyond rookie ball, you'll notice from the year-by-year stat lines linked above that Krieger was getting playing time on a "4th outfielder" level.
