"The Red Sox Intend to Trade Kevin Youkilis"

Recommended Posts

Yes, please. Put Hart back in right and Youkilis at first. A right handed bat is what this team needs.

I agree that he could be a good fit. Hopefully the Brewers can take on enough of the salary that they don't have to pay much in the way of prospect value.

The thing about Youkilis is that he's only signed through the end is the season. His contract carries a team option for $14m. I think that might be enough to get him on the cheap. Honestly, Gindl might get that deal done.

I'd prefer not to trade Gindl, this is really the only time he has struggled in his career and last not not withstanding he seems to have rediscovered his stroke. I suspect that Gindl has a better than normal chance of continuing to out perform his scouting ceiling. Would Rogers be of interest returning to the northeast? All things being equal we have more pitchers that we can afford to deal some of the less reliable bodies than position players at the moment.

I don't think the Red Sox are looking for a minor league player in return for Youkilis. I think they are looking for a player that is already in the majors or could be brought to the majors the day of the trade. K-Rod makes the most sense for the Brewers to trade with the Red Sox though that is going to create another hole and I am not sure the Brewers have someone that could fill the hole K-Rod leaving will make.

am I the only one who would prefer Hart to stay at 1B and leave the OF as Braun, Morgan/Gomez, Aoki? Especially since Gomez and Aoki are swinging a good bat right now?

With the way Rodriguez has pitched this season, I don't know that Boston would even want him. The Red Sox outfield resembles a Mash unit right now, which was why I suggested Gindl. Heck, Morgan might be a good enough piece to send to Boston with what's happening in their outfield.

The White Sox are actually playing Orlando Hudson at 3B right now, and they lead their division...and the Dodgers are using Hairston every day at 3B, with Ellis out at 2B.

There are teams with a need every bit as obvious as the Brewers have, who are leading their divisions at the moment, Youkilis may cost more than it appears.

Youkilis is on he DL every other week, I'd take him on the cheap, but if it costs us anything of value, I'd pass.

Is there anything wrong with playing Hart at 1B, Braun, Morgan/Gomez, Aoki in the OF?

Seriously, why make a move where we don't need to make a move?

We need a SS pretty badly, making a rental trade for a position that we already have on the team doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

You are not alone. I completely agree. Leave Hart at 1B, not just this year but next. Whether Aoki's a longer term answer, I don't know, but corner OF can be had. I'm curious why the Bosox are so anxious to deal Youkilis anyway. That's a red flag for me.

As I said before, he is constantly hurt. On and off the DL...

No, you're not. MAYBE if we got hot and where at .500 and only 2.5 games out, or whatever I'd be more willing to take a chance on a guy like Youk. He could hit 2nd(always a good OBP guy) or even leadoff and we all know he can play 1st pretty dang well.

But I don't think taking on more money this year at this point, or giving up ANYONE who has a chance to be a part of our future(Gindl or even Rogers) makes sense.

Not that I'm real high on either, but Gindl HAS always out performed his ceiling and Rogers always could still end up as a pretty good SU man.

Again, if we were in it right now and if we didn't already have a number of very good OF'ers that makes moving Hart to 1st a lot easier, I'd be well on board as you're buying a VERY good player cheap and banking on the fact that he'll come around.

But we need a lot more than a 5 out of 6 streak to get me too excited about adding this year. Still 5 games under .500.

I don't think the Brewers should go after Youkilis. If we could get the 2008 version of Youkilis that'd be great but the 2012 version has just a .322 OBP and is slower than Gorman Thomas (and Gorman is 61 years old!)
