but given how crappy wolf has pitched this year i am all for him having the catcher he wants out their.

That's the point though. Wolf isn't a great pitcher, and it's not like he throws a knuckleball or some crazy pitch only certain catchers can catch. Couple that with the fact Kottaras clearly isn't healthy and it's idiotic to have Kottaras in there.

so Maldonado is our savior at catcher? i am one of the biggest RR is an idiot posters, but given how crappy wolf has pitched this year i am all for him having the catcher he wants out their.

Maldonado isn't the savior but did you see Kottaras on that ground ball he hit? He could barely run down the 1st base line, even when Hague bobbled the ball he couldn't even turn it up an extra gear to make sure he made it safely to 1st. He shouldn't be playing unless he absolutely has to and should probably be on the DL with the way he was running.

Also, get this clown out of the game.

Kottaras needs to learn how to block the plate. Walker just slid around his toe.

His leg is hurt. Would you be blocking the plate with an already injured leg?

Then he shouldn't be in there. Him being Wolf's personal catcher isn't helping wolf at all. There is no reason Wolf should have a personal catcher!!!

I guess then the question is, why is a catcher in there that is incapable of blocking the plate and making that quick throw to 1st to turn the double play?

I think I've seen enough of Nyjer Morgan.

Nyjer isn't doing a whole lot to help the team. Time to bench him.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you; don't you think it's sort of an interesting time to make a comment like that when he's solely responsible for our only run tonight?

He's Wolfie's catcher. He has to be in there!

No because he is soley responsible for 3 of the Pirates runs. That adds up to -2 tonight for Morgan. Where are all the Morgan is a plus defender guys?

Solely responsible for 3 of the Pirates runs? I would have to think Wolf is partially responsible after giving up 83 baserunners in one inning and leaving a meatball to be crushed at Nyjer.

Oh, and Nyjer did have a 9.2 UZR last year for us in center. I would consider that above-average.

Watching Wolf pitch is painful.

George needs to hit the DL, there is nothing he can do that helps this team right now. He can't throw, he can't run, he can't hit. His only value is catching our crappiest pitcher because our crappiest pitcher can't pitch without him.

What sense does that make. Wolf has pitched like crap most of the year. How has Kottaras helped him pitch better. Are you saying without Kattaras wolf would be pitching even worse?

I'm no Nyjer apologist, not a big fan of his antics and such, but isn't a hard line drive directly at the CF one of the toughest plays to make in baseball? You see guys get fooled on that all the time. It was a bullet that took about 2 seconds to reach where he was standing, impossible to judge if it was coming low, high, or straight at him. Yeah, it would have been better to take a couple steps back rather than freeze like that (and he still probably would have needed to leap to catch it), but it's tough to be upset that he didn't make that play.

Wolf was having a bad inning, but that error was the difference between the game still being in reach and the game being essentially over. It was the most important AB of the game in terms of LI and it lowered the chance of winning by over 20% compared with if he caught the ball.

I think it's fair to be critical because there is a reasonable replacement sitting on the bench.
