Bullpen help?

Rangers are poised to potentially have mark lowe available this summer... I felt going into this season our bullpen was the weakest link this season, and its definitely been stressful at times... Rangers could be looking for a RH OF in return.

Lowe, 28, has a 2.66 ERA with 8.9 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 in 20 1/3 innings two months into the season. He'll earn $1.7MM this year before hitting free agency.

any other BP arms out there that the crew should keep an eye on? last years pen was such a breath of fresh air with Saito/Hawkins/KRod/Axford

Pertaining to the first post, our two RH hitting OF's are Braun and Hart. I definitely wouldn't trade either for a 28-year-old middle reliever in the last year of his contract.

Now, if he was a throw-in to even salaries a little bit in a Greinke-for-Profar deal, then I'd be cool with it :-)

Grant Balfour might be worth considering. A's are going nowhere.

Neither are the Brewers. It makes no sense to buy, especially bullpen arms that always cost more than they're worth.

Just piling on here. One bullpen arm isn't going to turn our season around.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

6/1 was a different feel for this team than 6/15... trading for pen arms now is rather dumb since it seems more and more likely the only contention the brewers have this year is for over .500

So agreeing that it buying bullpen arms would be a waste, is Lidge worth a flyer? Washington just released him, and he's been pretty bad this year, but 9 innings is a pretty small sample. He's been very good the last two years. I'm not sure how his stuff has looked.

Anyone seeing Stetter getting another shot?

Stetter in his last 10 outing: 8 IP, 3 Hits, 0 Runs, 2 BB, 9 K's. Lefties are hitting .108 off of him.

Stetter's a guy who when he's got his feel and command is a major league caliber loogy. He lost it there for a couple years but may have regained it.

This team already has too many situational pitchers the way it is, we need pitchers that are capable getting hitters out from either side of the plate and that can pitch more than 1 inning if necessary. The problem with the bullpen is a complete lack of flexibility... adding another situational pitcher only ties RR's hands further.

Who's a situational pitcher? I count one, Perez, and he'd be the guy replaced. The problem is the guys that can go multiple innings, Parra and Dillard, can't do it very well and the one inning guys have been to put kindly rather erratic this year. When Estrada returns, that adds a better choice to the pen to cover multiple innings be it Fiers or Estrada.

Dillard is definitely a situational pitcher (ROOGY) even if he's not always used as such, and Loe is a ROOGY/groundball specialist.

I was thinking "man, what if they still had Saito and Hawkins... how nice that would have been..."

until I noticed Saito hasnt pitched this season yet... and then I saw Hawkins has a .66 ERA over 13.1 innings this season, and a 0.00 for the month of june. if only krod wouldnt have accepted arbitration... that 8 million could have been spent on 2 to 4 RP, that may/maynot have performed at the same level as krod.

This may not be the correct thread for this, but I'll try anyway. Does anyone know the free agent/arby situation for Loe & Veras? Brewerfan's salary page says they'll be free agents after this season, but Cot's says they both have a year of arbitration left.

If they are gone after this season, we could be looking at Yo and Axford as the only guys on the current roster who are "locks" for the entire 2013 pitching staff.

According to BRef, Loe and Veras won't be FA until 2014.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Estrada is a lock and Fiers is a near lock.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2012-roster.shtml

this is the best contract reference, similar to Capgeek.com for the NHL..

Loe and Veras are entering their final years of arbitration, both will probably get a raise, between 2.5 - 4 mil if they dont sign a longer contract or get traded. you can add Manny Parra into that situation, too.

Estrada hasnt even hit his arbitration years yet, hes not slated for FA until 2016, same goes with Narveson, and Axford isnt a FA until 2017. I dont think there is any rush to lock him up for a longer contract yet as he'll be a very cheap piece on the roster for another year or two. And as we've seen this year, he's not a lock to be that shutdown closer year in and year out.
