The 2012 summer movie thread

TracyThom

I've seen two movies so far this "summer" movie season. Both were really good.

The first isn't technically a summer 2012 movie, or even a 2012 movie altogether. It's The Raid: Redemption, a 2011 Indonesian movie. It premiered in the U.S. in March, and finally made it to Madison in late April. The movie featured some of the best fight scenes I have ever seen. It's one of those movies where you can just turn off your brain and enjoy.

The others is The Avengers. Amazing, just amazing. I wasn't sure how good the movie was going to be with Loki as the main villian, but Tom Hiddleston was fantastic in his role. You don't need to be a fan of superheroes to love this movie. Dark Knight Rises has a tall hill to climb to beat the Avengers both in box office money and film quality.

Besides DKR, I'm also looking forward to seeing the Spider-Man reboot, Ted, The Neighborhood Watch, and The Expendables 2.

Finally went and saw Avengers. Didn't come away disappointed at all.

A surprising amount of character development takes place, given that it's an ensemble flick, and a popcorn/action movie at that. With the Iron Man movies, and now the Avengers, they've shown that they really know what they're doing with the Marvel properties these days.

Can't wait for Iron Man 3, and especially Avengers 2.

Now, I can only hope that TDKR lives up to my lofty expectations.

Prometheus.

That is all.

No kidding. I've watched the trailer about 8 times and I get giddier every time. I'm also excited for the wide release of Moonrise Kingdom, which I think is tomorrow?

Also, while it's not the summer, there are a ton of great movies coming out in the fall and winter. The Master (Paul Thomas Anderson), Django Unchained (Tarantino), new Bond movie, Abraham Lincoln biopic with Daniel Day-Lewis, The Great Gatsby, The Hobbit, etc.

Yeah, I'm on the Promethius bandwagon as well. I've probably been on it since I saw the trailer to Alien in the theater in 1979.

And, of course, The Dark Knight Rises.

I saw The Avengers and enjoyed it a great deal. I'm hoping to get into a screening of Moonrise Kingdom this week. And Brave's on my radar. I don't know if there's anything else I'm really psyched for, but those are the big ones I'm looking forward to.
