I may be able to top that. Last week, I was standing on first base. The guy behind me, a lefty, hit an absolute rocket right at me. I jumped, but it still hit me square on the inside of the ankle, right above the bone. I still have a bruise that is 2 inches in diameter, the inside of my foot is purple from the heel to the arch, in the toe area, and now on the outside of my foot as well. I have not been able to put shoes on for the past week due to the swelling, though it has gone down by about 90% (it had nearly doubled in size).

I had finished a wireless antenna installation with some vendor electricians for a new safety system which monitors everything in our semis. Post installation I'm walking around a 20 plus yearold parking lot making sure I have the intended area of coverage out of the antenna but the install ran long enough that we have tractors and package cars coming back to the building so I move to closer the edge even though I have my safety vest on just to make it easier on everyone. As I mentioned the blacktop is over 20 years old and has begun to crumble, but I'm not paying attention to that, I'm just looking from my laptop to the antenna and back as I move around. I manage to get right to the edge blacktop and a piece crumbles away as I step on it and I sprain my right ankle bad enough it's still giving me trouble 5 weeks later. As my ankle buckles I fall down and to the right catching my left knee almost perfectly on the corner that broke away. I initially thought it was just bruise and scraped up pretty bad but now that the swelling has receded and the scrapes have healed there's obviously something very wrong inside the knee, it feels like when I tore cartilage in high school and the constant pain is fairly persistent.

Of course I didn't report it as an injury to work at the time because I thought it was just a sprained ankle (which happens a couple of times a year) and some bumps and bruises so now I have to explain to my boss and likely everyone else up the chain why I didn't report an injury while working on our newest safety project that I'll likely need some kind of surgery on.

Ironically my laptop which tumbled about 12-15 feet (wind aided) is functioning perfectly even though the plastics corners and housing were basically shredded.

Ran my first half-marathon last Saturday. I love my Reebok Zigtech shoes, but it looks like I have to retire them. They have given me minor heal blisters before, but this one is about as wide as one of those extra large band-aids. So, I'll be wearing saddles all week to work and will be purchasing another $100 pair of shoes. I was suppose to do 2 runs on 4th of July but don't think I'll be healed by then.

Silly question, but do you wear special running socks when you run?

It may not be your shoes... (or they may simply be too small, when I used to run, I wore 1/2 size bigger in running shoes as your feet usually swell a bit when you run).

I've swear by my Thorlo Experia socks. Never had a problem before I got these shoes. It sucks because I really like these shoes compared to what I've had in the past.

Thought I'd post this here, but I took the handle of a bat off the side of my head last night. Wasn't very hard, but I suspect that the headache I have had all day might be from it. There's a small lump, don't fix to miss any time for it, but thought I'd share it on here as an injury. I was catching in a softball game by the way.

Did the batter lose his grip on the bat during his backswing or something? Ouch.

Nope, he got walked and was going to fling the bat towards there dugout and grip got caught on his batting glove. Umpire took some of the blow to, but it hit him in the shoulder.

  • 2 weeks later...

My buddy Steve got into a nest of hornets this weekend. He was stung several times, but in particular, one got him on the index finger, and the sting has become badly infected.

Steve's finger is about twice its normal size, from the first knuckle to the tip, and it's turned nearly purple.

It's funny because I think ive got a huge nest somewhere in my brick siding. Ive been shooting suckers down and running all week.

On an injury related note: Last year we were playing ball at Waunafest and I hit a ball that I thought was gone so I was in my trot. Well...the ball hit the fence so I put it into gear and was trying to stretch the double into a triple and I felt like I hyperextended my knee going around second and chewed on some dirt.

Over a year later and I still feel pain and pressure when I bend on my knee. I'm thinking I did more then hyperextend it.

I've been training for my first 5k but trying to continue lifting weights. Last night I ran a 5k on a treadmill (3 weeks ahead of schedule so I was pretty pumped up), then went to bench. I was pretty tired and my form obviously suffered. On my last set, my right shoulder moved back really quick and I managed to pull something right under my shoulder blade. Looks like I wont be running for a while, I can't even take a half breath. And every time I move my arm I wince in pain. I'm trying to avoid going to the Dr to get some painkillers, but right now I can't even walk without wincing in pain and I'm taking a ton of Tylenol and Advil.

Not to make it sound funny, but it kinda is

Wife fell out of bed the other day (around 3am) while I was getting ready for work (scared the crap out of me since i was in another room). Now her left collerbone/shoulder area really bothers her.

I'm hoping she just jammed her shoulder and nothing more.

Soundly sleeping last night, and I must have turned over in bed when my right leg cramped up worse than it ever has before in my life. I yelled out an AHHHHhh and scared the absolute crap out of the wife. It took a good 5 minutes before the cramp finally released and I could relax again.

I have dislocated my ankle, broke my hand, and had various other injuries but I don't think I have felt anythign as painful as what I felt last night.

  • 1 month later...
My kitchen sink overflowed yesterday (yes, I left it running with the drain plugged while I went into the other room and forgot about it). I heard water running, so I ran back to the kitchen to shut it off. Long story short, I found myself laying on the floor in front of my sink with my feet through the baseboard and bruised/bloody ankles. I'm wearing sandals today at work and luckily a meeting was cancelled because my ankles are both too swollen to put shoes on.
