I-Phone friendly audio link

Alex Cohen is the new play-by-play voice of the Stars; follow him on Twitter @alexmcohen. It's fantastic that Huntsville is returning to what will be a traditional broadcast format this year. All games, home and away, are scheduled to be broadcast.

MiLB.TV subsciption note: Huntsville road games in four locales (Mississippi, Tennessee, Jacksonville and Pensacola) will be broadcast.

Brevard County: RHP's Jimmy Nelson and Brandon Williamson in a doubleheader at home vs. Daytona (Cubs), 4:05 PM gametime

Once again this season, Brevard does not have its own audio coverage. It appears two teams in the Manatees North Division (within which the majority of games are played) have audio, and all six teams in the South Division have audio (at least for their home games), so there will be opportunities to listen to approx. 70% or Brevard's games this season, just all from the opponent's perspective. There are no Florida State League games on MiLB.TV this year.

**********

Wisconsin: RHP Drew Gagnon at Peoria (Cubs), 6:10 PM pre-game, 6:30 gametime

Free Live Audio Link - 1280 AM WNAM

Chris Mehring is back to do his customary fantastic work as the Voice of the Rattlers. Follow him on Twitter @CMehring; we'll link to Chris' infamous blog often -- Rattler Radio.

MiLB.TV -- for subscribers; Wisconsin is one of only two (Great Lakes) Midwest League clubs that have all their home games available via MiLB.TV; Chris' call provides the audio. So for the $39.95 season-long package, fans in Brewer Nation can watch all Sounds games, all Timber Rattlers home games, and 24 Stars' road games (one Helena series this summer, too).

Mid-day updates: RHP Brian Baker makes the start for Nashville tonight in Mike Fiers' stead, and Game Two at Brevard will be handled by RHP Brandon Williamson.

Each was fairly easy to predict, but we'll make the change to the TBD's in the Menu now.

I missed it the first time he faced the Rattlers (April 14), but Peoria's starter tonight was Kyler Burke, a Padres first-rounder as an outfielder in 2006 who was traded to the Cubs for Michael Barrett and who hit .303/.405/.505 as a 21-year-old for the Chiefs just three years ago (albeit in his third go-round at the MWL).

Final: Tennessee 3, Huntsville 2

Huntsville Box Score

Evan Anundsen was effective tonight going 5 innings allowing 6H, 3R, 2ER, and 3BB against 3SO while throwing 61 of 96 pitches for strikes. Evan hurt himself with an error on a pick-off attempt in the 5th, which led to 2 runs scoring, the difference in the game. Mitch Stetter, RJ Seidel, and Santo Manzanillo all pitched 1 clean inning of relief a piece.

The Stars only managed 6 hits and Scooter Gennett managed the only multi-hit going 3-4 with a double and extending his hit streak to 12 games. At least half of the hits were of the XBH variety as both Hunter Morris and Kentrail Davis each added a double. Tommy Manzella committed his 3rd error in his short time with Huntsville, a fielding error, and that's about it.

The T-Rat audio always dumps at the worst time, patiently waiting for it to return as the Rattlers and Chiefs go to the bottom of the 12th.

tedaldtada...wasn't that hard for me. Thornburg has had more success in the minors than Peralta or Nelson. Nelson and Peralta have had about the same amount of success. I went Thorny, Nelson, and then Peralta because of duration of success and recent success. all are pretty good prospects though

Well I was certain the T-Rats were going to lose after they went down in order to a position player in the top of the 13th and then Toledo loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom but he got out of it with a grounder to 3rd and a strike out of Baez on a pitch that would have been ball 4... wow.

Chris was understandably very excited, too bad the Rattlers are on the road, I'd like that call in the highlights.

'Tees take first game of doubleheader

05/29/2012 9:05 PM ET

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees took the first game of a doubleheader against the Daytona Cubs, by the score of 4-1 on Tuesday evening at Space Coast Stadium. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the 'Tees.

Manatees starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson (4-4, 2.08) went six innings and allowed just one run on three hits. He walked two and struck out five as he improved to 2-1 with a 1.21 ERA in four home starts. Casey Medlen pitched a scoreless seventh to earn his seventh save of the season.

Brevard (20-29) took an early lead in the seven-inning contest with a first inning RBI single by T.J. Mittelstaedt that plated Nick Shaw. The Manatees extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth with back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Shaw and Reggie Keen.

The Cubs (19-29) scored their only run off of Nelson and the Manatees in the top of the fifth inning as Matt Szczur drove in Richard Jones on a sacrifice fly to right field.

The 'Tees plated an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth as Mike Walker hit a solo homer, his fifth of the season to tie T.J. Mittelstaedt for the team lead.

Parker Berberet, Keen and Walker had two hits each as the Manatees went 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the first game of the double dip.

Box Score

Jimmy Nelson is dominating the Florida State League. Only three hits allowed tonight and an uncharacteristic 6 FB outs compared to 6 GB outs.

Reggie Keen is burning up the base paths as he now has 17 on the year against 7 CS. Mike Walker is making a case to be the Manatee hitting rep at the FSL All-Star game.

Earlier this year, A-Ball Cub Arismendy Alcantara hit a walk-off homer against the Manatees. Today, he committed his 22nd error of the season. Sources close to the situation indicate that Alfonso Soriano has been serving as a roving infield instructor for the Cubs on big league off days. Results are beginning to show.

Game Log

Two 1-2-3 innings on the night for Nelson.

Brevard rallies to sweep double dip

05/29/2012 10:12 PM ET

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie to defeat the Daytona Cubs 5-2 in the second game of Tuesday night's doubleheader. The victory gave the 'Tees a sweep of the double dip.

Mike Walker, who homered in game one, started the Brevard (21-29) rally with a one-out infield single. He then stole second base with Shea Vucinich at the plate. Vucinich would then fly out for the second out of the sixth.

Cody Hawn then drew a walk to put two on. Scott Krieger plated Walker with a RBI single to left and Krieger advanced to second on the throw.

The newest Manatee, catcher Joey Paciorek then came to the plate and drove in Hawn and Krieger with a two-run single to left to make it a 5-2 game. Paciorek was 3-for-3 in his Brevard County debut.

Greg Holle put the Cubs (19-30) down in order in the seventh for his first save of the season as the 'Tees took two games in one night from their division rival.

Brian Garman earned the win in relief as he threw a scoreless sixth, while striking out one. Manatees starter Brandon Williamson (1-2, 3.67), who made his first appearance in ten days, showed little rust as he struck out five in five innings of work. He allowed two runs - both in the third - on six hits, while walking one.

Brevard County and Daytona will face-off again on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium.

It will be two southpaws dueling on the mound as Jed Bradley (4-4, 3.94) goes for the Manatees and Frank Del Valle (3-1, 4.09) goes for the Cubs.

For Bradley, it will be his second start since coming off of the disabled list. In his last start, he went just 4 2/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on 12 hits. The 2011 first round draft pick is 1-1 with a 1.86 ERA in two starts against Daytona.

Box Score

Great sweep today, Manatees!

New BC catching duo, Parker Berberet and Joey Paciorek had 5 hits on the day. T.J. Mittelstaedt is all the way down into the .230's for a batting average now but he did contribute in both games today including a 2B in G2.

Unheralded Brandon Williamson pitched pretty decent again. He has been underwhelming but successful across three levels this year. Greg Holle recorded the save. I honestly was hoping his stuff would make a jump this year, but the numbers do not suggest that.

Cubs drop both games of doubleheader

05/29/2012 10:23 PM ET

By Tyler Murray

Viera, Fla. The Daytona Cubs dropped both games of a doubleheader, 4-1 and 5-2, to the Brevard County Manatees on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Game 1:

Brevard County took the first contest by a score of 4-1, powered by 10 hits off Cubs' starter RHP Rob Whitenack (L, 0-1), who allowed four runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings. The right-hander was chased from the game by 1B Mike Walker, who blasted a solo home run to right-center field in the fourth inning. The start was Whitenack's first out of Extended Spring Training since his season-ending Tommy John surgery last June.

The Cubs offense was stymied against RHP Jimmy Nelson (W, 4-4), who entered the game ranked third in the FSL in ERA (2.14) and second in strikeouts (62). The right-hander allowed just one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts over six strong innings.

Daytona's lone run came in the fifth inning, when 1B Richard Jones led off with a double, moved to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on a sacrifice fly from CF Matt Szczur.

The Cubs brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh and final inning, loading the bases with two outs for SS Arismendy Alcantara. RHP Casey Medlen (S, 7) fell behind in the count, 3-0, but fought back to strike out Alcantara swinging and end the game.

Game 2:

RHP P.J. Francescon (L, 0-1) gave the Cubs their first complete game of the season in Game 2, but allowed five runs on eight hits with three hits and five walks over his six innings of work as Daytona fell, 5-2.

The game was deadlocked at 2-2 through the first five innings, until the Manatees broke the game open with a three-run, three-hit sixth inning, highlighted by C Joey Paciorek's two-RBI single in his Brevard County debut. Paciorek finished the night 3-3.

1B Greg Rohan's third-inning two-run bomb to left field accounted for the entirety of the Cubs run production, as Daytona mustered just six hits off starter RHP Brandon Williamson and relievers LHP Brian Garman (W, 2-1) and RHP Greg Holle, (S, 1). Rohan now has nine homeruns on the season and 43 RBIs.

The Manatees struck first, as SS Nick Shaw and LF T.J. Mittelstaedt both hit doubles in the opening frame. CF Reggie Keen added another with a single in the third, tying the game after Rohan's home run had put the Cubs up by one for their only lead of the twin bill.

The Cubs have now lost five of their last six games, and have been held to three runs or less in their last four contests.

The Cubs and Manatees will do battle on Wednesday at Space Coast Stadium before heading back to Daytona to play Thursday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 6:35pm.

Sounds Lose Rain-Shortened Opener In Oklahoma City

05/29/2012 9:29 PM ET

Nashville Sounds

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Nashville Sounds lost, 2-0, to the Oklahoma City RedHawks in a five-inning, rain-shortened opener of a four-game series on Tuesday evening at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the game went into a rain delay and was officially halted approximately later at 9:03pm, making it an official game.

The loss moved Nashville to 20-31 on the season, which has also dropped eight of nine to Oklahoma City.

RedHawks starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel (5-4) tossed five shutout innings while striking out three for the victory.

Nashville starter Brian Baker tossed three scoreless innings before Oklahoma City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. After Mike Hessman singled, Jimmy Paredes belted a two-out RBI double down the left field line.

Oklahoma City tacked on their other run in the fifth right before the rain delay. Former Sound Carlos Corporan was hit by a Baker fastball, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Brad Snyder double.

Baker (1-3) gave up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings for the loss.

Left fielder Jordan Brown went 2-for-2 to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games.

The Sounds and RedHawks continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Right-hander Seth McClung (1-4, 5.28) will toe the rubber for Nashville against Oklahoma City righty Brian Bass (NR).

Box Score

Caleb Gindl inches toward respectability with a 1-1 game out of the 7th hole. Sean Halton went 1-2. After his 1B, Carlos Corporan picked Sean off. Jordan Brown and Brian Baker were covered above.

As far as I know, this game will not be finished.

Final: Peoria 4, Wisconsin 3 (14 Innings)

Chiefs avoid the sweep, beat Rattlers in 14 innings

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

PEORIA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a lot of chances, but it was the Peoria Chiefs who picked up a 4-3 win in 14 innings at Peoria Chiefs Stadium on Tuesday night. Oliver Zapata singled with two outs to score Pin-Chieh Chen with the winning run in the bottom of the fourteenth. The Rattlers had won the first three games of the four game series in Peoria, but the Chiefs avoided the sweep with the Tuesday's win.

Greg Hopkins put the Rattlers (33-19) in front with a leadoff home run in the top of the second inning. Later in the inning, Cameron Garfield scored on a Yadiel Rivera fielder's choice.

Peoria (23-29) responded with a pair of two out runs of Rattlers starting pitcher Drew Gagnon. Yasiel Balaguert doubled in a run with two away in the second. Then, Ryan Cuneo blasted a two-out solo homer in the third to tie the game 2-2.

The Chiefs took the lead in the fourth inning. Javier Baez drew a walk with one out and stole second. He scored on a single to right by Anthony Giansanti. Gagnon would not allow another runner. He retired the final eleven batters he faced.

Wisconsin rallied to tie the game in the seventh. Peoria reliever Larry Suarez retired the first two batters of the frame, but back-to-back infield singles by John Dishon and Chadwin Stang and a walk to Brandon Macias loaded the bases. Jason Rogers singled off the glove of Suarez to get Dishon home with the tying run.

Wisconsin put the leadoff batter on base to lead off the eighth, ninth, and twelfth but could not score. The Rattlers also put a runner on base with one out in the tenth and eleventh innings, but could not score.

Kenny Socorro, a position player for the Chiefs, entered the game in the top of the thirteenth. Socorro had been on the Peoria roster all season long, but had not appeared in a game until Tuesday night. He retired the Rattlers in order.

In the bottom of the thirteenth, Zeke DeVoss doubled to start the inning against reliever Tommy Toledo. One out later, the right-handed Toledo walked the left-hand batting Cuneo to face right-hand hitting Paul Hoilman for a potential double play ball. Toledo walked him to load the bases. But, Toledo escaped by getting a force out at the play at the plate on a chopper to third and striking out Javier Baez on a 3-2 pitch.

Socorro retired the Rattlers in order again in the top of the fourteenth.

Tyler Cravy relieved Toledo in the fourteenth inning and gave up a single to Giansanti to start the inning. But, Balaguert bunted into a 1-6-3 double play. However, Cravy walked Chen on a 3-2 pitch. Chen would steal second and DeVoss would draw another walk on a 3-2 pitch. Zapata lined the first pitch of the at bat to left field and Dishon fielded it on one hop. His throw to the plate appeared to be in time, but Chen's slide knocked the ball free and the Chiefs celebrated the marathon win.

The Beloit Snappers probably celebrated the Peoria win as well. The second place Snappers defeated Kane County 5-4 in eleven innings earlier in the day. That win and the Rattlers loss moved Beloit to within two games of the first place Rattlers in the Western Division of the Midwest League with eighteen games remaining in the first half.

The Timber Rattlers continue their 13-game road trip in Cedar Rapids when they play the Kernels on Wednesday night. Chad Thompson (1-1, 6.53) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Cedar Rapids has Austin Wood (2-3, 3.78) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 6:35pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm.

HOME RUNS:

WIS:

Greg Hopkins (6th, 0 on in 2nd inning off Kyler Burke, 0 out)

PEO:

Ryan Cuneo (4th, 0 on in 3rd off Drew Gagnon, 2 out)

WP: Kenny Socorro (1-0)

LP: Tyler Cravy (1-2)

TIME: 4:18

ATTN: 1,382

Wisconsin Box Score

Well the Rattler pitchers only allowed 8 hits over 14 innings but didn't limit the damage enough to secure a victory. Drew Gagnon didn't pitch all that bad, it was like 1 bad pitch here, another there, and suddenly the Chiefs have 3 runs on the board. Drew went 7IP allowing 4H, 3ER, 2BB, and 1WP against 5SO posting a 11:5 ratio. I believe Chris had his unofficial tally at 85 pitches with 51 for strikes, but I'm a bit a fuzzy. Stephen Peterson pitched 2 excellent innings of relief and Tommy Toledo came up clutch picking up the next 4, including that Houdini act in the 13th. Tyler Cravy actually had Chen down 1-2 in the count before walking him (my pet peeve right there) but should have gotten out of the inning if not for the dropped ball at the plate.

The Rattlers didn't manage their opportunities very well and who knows why a position player was able to retire 6 hitters in a row to end the game. Gregory Hopkins continues to kill the ball, he went 3-6 including the HR mentioned above and a stolen base on a delayed steal. Unfortunately after playing 14 innings no other T-Rat had an XBH and only John Dishon had another multi-hit game going 2-4 with 2 walks and a SB. Brandon Macias was productive even though he went 1-4 as he walked 3 times in the contest. Nick Ramirez (fielding) and Cameron Garfield (throwing) both committed errors.

Wisconsin Play By Play

With the way the game ended Chris breezed over the runs Drew allowed.

Peoria Bottom of the 2nd

  • Wes Darvill walks.
Javier Baez flies out to left fielder John Dishon.
Anthony Giansanti called out on strikes.
With Yasiel Balaguert batting, wild pitch by Drew Gagnon, Wes Darvill to 2nd.
Yasiel Balaguert doubles (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Max Walla. Wes Darvill scores.
Pin-Chieh Chen flies out to center fielder Chadwin Stang.

Peoria Bottom of the 3rd

  • Zeke DeVoss flies out to center fielder Chadwin Stang.
Oliver Zapata grounds out, pitcher Drew Gagnon to first baseman Nick Ramirez.
Ryan Cuneo homers (4) on a fly ball to right field.
Paul Hoilman flies out to right fielder Max Walla.

Peoria Bottom of the 4th

  • Wes Darvill grounds out, pitcher Drew Gagnon to first baseman Nick Ramirez.
    Javier Baez walks.
With Anthony Giansanti batting, Javier Baez steals (1) 2nd base.
Anthony Giansanti singles on a fly ball to right fielder Max Walla. Javier Baez scores.
Yasiel Balaguert singles on a fly ball to center fielder Chadwin Stang. Anthony Giansanti to 2nd.
Pin-Chieh Chen grounds into a force out, second baseman Gregory Hopkins to shortstop Yadiel Rivera. Anthony Giansanti to 3rd. Yasiel Balaguert out at 2nd. Pin-Chieh Chen to 1st.
    Zeke DeVoss strikes out swinging.
